I have always wanted to try a straight brassica plot but have never been around early enough to plant one to get good growth before colder weather slowed them down. Got about 1.5 ac prepped, WI radish and mixed brassica mix bought and have never got enough rain to plant and really non projected for another 10 days. They will grow some if planted now but I am not sure if the seed and fertilizer cost would justify the forage produced especially since they need lots of nitrogen. May just save seed and try again next year.

I would plant now. It’ll rain soon and the temps will stay higher down in south alabama. I’m in northern pike county and usually plant late October into November. Have planted the first day of gun season because of no rain. It’ll grow but I haven’t ever gotten huge mass from them. Deer usually mow it down. I had good growth last season but the Christmas freeze killed all of it. My soil test results recommended planting in September but that ain’t happening. To sandy and dry. I kept a bag of crimson clover for close to a year and it was no good when I went to spread it.

Mine is all on the ground waiting for rain. I have one plot that says moist most of the time and planted some there in late august or early september and they are doing well.
