I got this 5X5 Saturday afternoon near Cuba, New Mexico. I was hunting the first rifle hunt , and the rut was running late this year . We heard 8 different bulls Saturday. We had 4 bulls bugling less than 200 yards of us late Saturday afternoon, there was a couple of hot cows in the area. It took about 2 hours to get this one killed. I was hunting with Blue Mountain Outfitters. This was my second hunt with them, I killed a 6X6 several years ago with them.

Congratulations! The only place to kill a bigger bull on public land is next door in AZ. They, however have a lot fewer opportunities because a smaller amount of elk land and a lot of that is Tribal controlled. All in all, NM is the best bet to go elk hunting in. Congrats again. Take care of that meat. It is some fine eating.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.
