I have shot Winchester Silvertip for years years. But I can't find any in the Montgomery area to save my life. What other brands do you recommend? What is working for you. Purchased a new scope and need to get it sighted in and ready for opening weekend.

The honest answer is nearly any 125+ grain expanding bullet out there for the 30-06 will kill any deer in the lower 48. I’ve killed a lot with cheap 150-165 grain federal soft point and Remington core-loct. I’ve also had great luck with the Winchester 150gr deer season XP. I haven’t found a load that wouldn’t give me 1.5” groups or better at 100 yards. I’d say just pick one that’s readily available and that speaks to you. It’ll be hard to go wrong.

Macks Prairie Wings has Winchester Silver Tip in 150 grain in stock for now. I shoot those in either 150 or 165 grain and have always dropped deer and most hogs where they stand.

Ive always shot core lokts in my 30 06. I dont think a deer ever lived through it. Not much velocity at 425yds though. Theyll drop one like a sack of taters at 375yds. Shot quite a few between 100-200yds. They generally dont go far. Ive done so well with 150gr core lokts in my 30 06, ive just never felt the need to try anything else.

Winchester or Federal 150 sp will kill them as dead as any other bullet. Cheaper too

I'm shooting Barnes 150 or 180 grain ttsx. Also have killed a few with Winchester or Federal 150 grain soft points always did the job

I recently switched to the Norma ammo. Have been really happy with accuracy and how it kills deer. I shoot the 150 grain soft point.

To me it’s all about what my rifle will shoot well. Then price. My Ruger shoots 165gr Federal sierra gamekings into 1” groups all day. Luckily I bought a bunch years ago and have a lifetime supply at the rate of usage. It doesn’t like 150s and 165gr federal blue box shot consistently at or over 4moa.
The Weatherby I inherited from my dad shots the 150gr Corelokts very well. I have enough of those for now.

Thanks! Didn't know about the Aldeer fans for core-locks. I bout a box of Winchester Power Points because I do have a new scope this year. Going to get it sighted in and then see about ordering some silvertips online.

The only thing I’ve shot corelokts with and been displeased is my 25-06. It shoots the 100gr corelokt into .75moa groups and I’ve killed some deer with them but I’ve lost a number of good deer that I know I killed. I rarely got an exit with them and next to no blood. Luckily most were DRT or piled up within 40 yards. A few made it over 100 yards and I found them on a grid search. Others were never found. I shoot the 117gr silver tips in that rifle now. They don’t print as well though.
