Opening day of Bow season in Alabama is over rated at least he got it out of the way before the rut.

Why is it over rated?

If I had to choose between hunting opening day of Bow season or any weekend in January I would pick January every time. Not saying it’s a bad time to hunt I’m just saying there are worse times to have a wedding. Over rated may have been a bad description, but when I take vacation time to hunt in Alabama it’s in the last 5 weeks of season.

With all that being said. If I didn’t have to work tonight I would have been in the woods today. But I work the next 3 nights so I’ll be out there Wednesday.

I’m right the opposite. 😂
I wouldn’t trade the first week of bow season for the entire month of January.

Deer seem to be moving right now......Saw several different groups on the way home

In a tree. Hopefully one of the 2 eights that’s been consistent in the afternoon will show. Either would be my best bow kill. I’m happy for this NW steady wind.

In GA this evening. Acorns finally dropping. Bucks have disappeared from camera, but that’s normal here. They’ll be following does around in about 10 days.

In a tree for the afternoon hunt…my 6 year old son is hunting with my Dad this afternoon. They’ve got their crossbows ready!! I’m on the side of a foodplot (nothing green due to the drought!) with post oaks raining acorns near me and a corn feeder at 20 yards. Good luck, everyone!!!

Wind was awful up here. Still saw a pile of does. Didn't connect on anything but it was good to be in a tree.

Skunked this morning. Beautiful spot. Never have seen/heard so many acorns. Everywhere. Yet I didn’t see the first pile of poop/sign as I was walking out. They’re those big Mountain acorns about the size of a golf ball. You’d think they be all over these things, but nada.

Debating about tomorrow. A) whether to go, and B) stick with the mountain oaks or get mobile

I’ve never seen deer eating them. Maybe if nothing else is falling, but even then I’d find something else unless there’s a ton of fresh sign under them. They are BITTER, and doubtful to kill a deer under one. Time to put your feet on the ground and find something better.

I saw a pile of deer. 5 young bucks ( 4 pt, 6 pt, 6 pt, 8 pt, and a cow horn.) Probably 15 does and yearlings. Maybe the big boys will be on their feet in the morning.

Blessed with a mature buck I’ve been watching since late July. Showed up at 5:20 and was the 8th deer I had in range this afternoon. He won’t win any big buck contest but it sure did feel good to put my hands on one. Happy to text pics if someone will post em.
