Y’all got any good obedience training books you recommend. Planning on sending him to school once he gets old enough but wanted to be working with him now. He is a lab and the plans is to have a finished gun dog one day just want to make sure I start him outright and give him the best chance possible.

I second Wolters water dog. Also a lot of material on YouTube. For obedience specifically I liked stonnie Dennis. For retriever training I liked Bill Hillman.

For starting a puppy, this is the program I would recommend.

I've used Wolters for 30 years. Still my bible with young dogs

Water Dog is a great book and was cutting edge in the 1950"s. Still can train a bang up dog with it. There are much better programs out there now. They will progress faster and are more reliable. The e-collar changed the game. My days of running out to correct a dog are over!!!!

Certainly the new tech makes correction easier. But Wolter's guidance on defining the relationship between the dog and the master is excellent.
