Who has experience with battery powered chainsaws? What brand, and anything good or bad to say about them?
I don’t use a chainsaw but a few times of year to clear our roads, my gas powered one is acting up. It’s probably time to replace, but I’m not sure I want to go with another gas powered.
At one point I wouldn’t have entertained a battery chainsaw, but I’m more open to it now.

I have a DeWalt that I will cut shooting lanes and do trimming with and it works really well. I've cut some trees out of the roads that were as big around as the average guys leg.

I ran one of these over the weekend. I didn’t cut anything bigger than my wrist but it seemed to work well. It was brand new. Figure if you keep the chain sharp it would work for a good cause. Felt like I shouldn’t cut a big size tree with it but that should be expected..

I have a Makita battery saw and it works fine I have cut some big stuff with it (within the bar length limit), however it is not a real chainsaw. You can't just cut whatever you want with any saw the bar length limits you.
If you have to do any serious cutting you will have more $$ in the required batteries to run that thing all afternoon than you would a real chainsaw. With a real saw you pour in more gas it and it keeps cutting.
Get an Echo, run straight gas in it and run it out of gas every time you use it and it will last forever. Much longer than a bunch of batteries.

Perfect Example
$350ish for the Stihl MSA 200
Spare Battery = another $200
12" Bar.
Good for cutting some limbs around the house on occasion but not a real saw.

I have the Kolbat 80v. I can cut up a big tree that has fallen across a trail with one 2.0ah battery. That is to clear the trail not cut everything for the log splitter. Two batteries is a must or you will be pissed when you are half way in a cut and it dies.

If your trails are anything like mine there is constantly some limbs or trees down across my trails. Sometimes I can move with tractor or lifting or a saw. While a battery one might come in handy occasionally, there are plenty of times a gas powered chainsaw is necessary. Battery power has a place but gas powered will cover it all! So either buy new battery and gas one or just buy a gas one.

I have several Milwaukee fuel tools which I love for their power and haven't tried the chainsaw but my bigger tools with the battery installed are as heavy or heavier than my 14" chainsaw so that is a consideration if using all day.

I purchased a Ryobi 18inch 40V chainsaw and have been impressed. The battery last about an hour of cutting and it has performed well. I would certainly recommend this chainsaw.

So either buy new battery and gas one or just buy a gas one. With ~4k acres we always have trees down. All my yard equipment is the Kolbat 80v stuff. If I didnt have electric yard equipment, I would have had gas chainsaw. I do like that I can keep the saw in my mule during hunting season. It doesnt stink of gas, and much quieter to operate. No way the property could be managed without a gas chainsaws
