I'll be shooting flitecontrol 9 pellet. It's definitely a LOT better than all the other buckshot out there, but patterns start to fall apart quickly after 40 yards. I'm just a big fan of slugs and used to having that extra reach.

They usually do fall off quick. That's why I try to get the tightest 40 yard patterns I can. A pattern that's just decent @ 40 will usually suck @ 50.

These are pattern pics from the load I'm shooting until I find something tighter. This is a 16 pellet 00 hand load I've been shooting for several years. It's faster than a factory load and also a true 00 instead of the .32 cal the factory call 00. That's why it's 16 pellets when a factory 3.5 has 18. I've killed several deer with this load out to 70 yards or so. Those pieces of paper are 40x48 just for a reference

I shot this buck @ close to 70 yards and put around 20 pellets in him from his last rib to his nose. I shot him 3 times. I shot him on the other side from the pic and you can see where the pellets are just under the hide.i wish I knew how to post pics instead of links. Sorry about that.

Those are some really great patterns for that distance! I’m going to do some testing with different shotguns and chokes when my flitecontrol gets here, hoping I can at least squeak out some decent 50 yard patterns

I did a lot of digging trying to get info on the hunt and I was only able to find the info that’s listed in the registration area. Basically, show up to the forest at 5:00am and follow to signs to the meetup point?

It seems crazy that no one is willing or able to give any additional info, like official times, legal arms/ammo, etc.

You’ll have a blast. Some really good guys will help put it in and bring their hounds. They’ll release 100 or more each hunt.

I’m looking forward to it. I’ve never been on a dog drive I’ve always wanted to see what it was like.

I think I’m gonna stay at the primitive campground at Geneva state forest but I’m not sure yet.

Got the guns patterned this evening, My Dad and I will be driving down Thursday night, it will be the first dog hunt for both of us and we’re both looking forward to it.

Feel free to say hello if you see us, we’ll be in an old silver XC90. I still can’t believe we both drew for this hunt separately!

was a great time! we saw lots of deer, but no shooter bucks. the whole thing was really well organized and the dog handlers were great. It's definitely an exciting experience! saw a good number of deer killed and at least one real nice buck (but was missing antler on one side)

I agree it was awesome. I was only there on Friday. I had a chance at a doe on the afternoon hunt and blew it. She stopped behind a holly bush and a pine tree and never entered the road.
