As expected, I didn't draw anything. Seven years of not drawing a gator tag and now no SOA hunts either.

I had put in for Stimpson, Upper Sanctuary, Portland and Cedar Creek. Oh well, maybe next year.

If anyone has hunted Portland Landing shoot me a PM and let me know where you stayed. I know it’s close to Camden and Roland Cooper state park, but I would like to talk to someone with some experience.

My buddy was drawn for uchee creek . It doesn't look like there are any camp grounds close by. If anyone has a lead on camping or an air b&b please let me know.

Mrs. Bamaeyedoc got Portland Landing January 18th weekend! Only took 65 preference points. I’m excited for her and so is she!

It’s a weird system when folks get chosen year after year (or even the first time) and it took 4 years of her registering for close to 20 hunts each year to finally get the chance. We just register for hunts close to our camp so we’ll have a place to stay.

Should be a good time for that area. Just gotta get a game plan together.

I just heard the Blue Spring dog hunt is a different format than the Geneva Hunts. Not sure exactly how its going to be run.

Got selected for Blue Springs WMA Adult Dog deer Hunt on December 29-30. Anyone been on this hunt before and what weapons are allowed to hunt with? I grew up dog hunting and We always used Shotgun only with Buckshot.

I read elsewhere this will be the first year for Blue Springs to run a dog hunt with the current format. What the current format is, I don’t know for sure. Some posted this on Facebook.

“I was selected for this hunt as well. From what I’ve read, the draw dog hunts are ran by the local chapters of the Alabama Dog Hunters Association. They run their dogs and assign standers. I used to be in a dog club and haven’t heard a good race in years. I’m looking forward to it. Bucks have to have 3 points on one side an inch or longer, buckshot only.”

There’s a little motel in Camden. Right next to a pretty decent Mexican restaurant. I stayed there when I got picked for a Portland turkey hunt several years ago.

Me and My son stayed at Roland Cooper SP for a Feb deer hunt at Cedar Creek SOA and it was perfect place to stay. The cabins are really nice with living room, kitchen, bath & shower, and 2 bedrooms. Portland Landing SOA is even better since it is closer to Roland Cooper SP.

I drew both the Blue Spring WMA dog hunt on Dec 29-30 and the Upper State archery hunt that starts on Dec 28. I’ll more than likely decline both, falls too close to our rut in Lamar County.

Looks like there will be several of us there. I also got bumped to hunter for oak mountain 1/20 I believe but figured it would be dead then.

Would walk over a naked woman to get to a gobblin turkey!

I was selected “ hunter” for the 1/22 Oak Mountain hunt. I had 9 preference points with 63 hunts registered for.

That is the weekend I went last year....probably the best weekend on the best SOA...sort of the holy grail of SOA selections....congrats
