Season starts in 2 days. I've watched 4-7 bulls every morning, two a pretty nice. There's an old saying "don't pass elk to get to elk" but, they're in and out of the private land I can hunt but it's simply try and cut them off in the timber. My son and I won't bother with them for a while but the locals will. We're gonna go run & gun and enjoy the rut. It's a blast bugling and beating trees to death to make a bull come in.

Thanks. We can legally bait but I don't, run and guns too fun. It's amazing that really no one baits hardly at all up here for deer or elk.
Only way I'm sitting in a stand is if one of my new knees goes out or gets sore.

Nobody baits because who can afford to keep elk fed? Have you ever seen what they do to a winter green field? Good luck.

Yea I've seen it, I manage damage tags on two farms + their leases... There aren't winter green fields here, everything's green most of the winter.
Those that do bait use apples purchased in bulk.

Got a message today from a DA stating he had my camera (was on private land) and I wouldn't get it back until his was returned. I called him basically every name in the book and told him thanks for admitting he stole my camera and in 15 minutes I'd be filing charges with the local sheriff dept. lol. After some back and forth we met up and he kinda understood how things were and all was good and my cam returned. Well, I went to re-hang my cam and the mounts were broken. He now owes me one cellular camera and knows if I don't get payment I'll just file the theft complaint lol. My cam can hang with a tree mount so it's good and a free cam on the way soon

Well y'day was the opener. My son was any legal bull due to not wanting to miss work with his first kid on the way. We headed in at the legal time on bikes and bumped a few cows off the road at daylight. Got to our spot and saw two guys across the clear cut squatting down so we knew they saw animals. I looked to the right and had an elk at 50yds, ended up 6 cows and calves but no bulls. Hunted the timber a bit and saw a few hunters on the roads. Sat in the 80 degree sun and finally decided to head out and go home. Got home at 1545 and went to meet him at a specific gate at 1700. We got in the timber and he sat at an intersection that heads towards some fields. We decided I'd go back about 75yds in case I needed to do any calling. At 1913 I head a noice and thought he could have been a bow and an arrow hitting something OR an elk messing around and sent him a text. and here's the reply

Found blood about 10yds from where Bull originally stood. Found this about 75yds later, about 10yds from bull
