I haven’t been anywhere any better than where I live now so I really don’t know . I live way out in boonies in northwest al. 2 miles from pickwick lake . Fish an hunt all I want . Have everything I need . Not much crime .No neighbors except family for miles . Have over 4k acres to hunt on or ride motorcycles on. Low cost of living here in al. Debt free for years . Grow most of my food .have lots chickens . Big garden every year. A job that I love an get work in woods everyday . When I retire I’m getting me a motor home, take my bike an me,wife and dogs gonna explore some these places you guys talk about . For sure going up the Alaskan highway one summer . At that point in my life I will have nothing holding me here but it’s still home . Don’t think I could live where it’s cold an i could not be outside all the time .

A good friend is setting up his retirement to be in Costa Rica. His family has busted several times now to get as much info about living there.

I’ve just felt really strong about it being time for a change for a while now. I’ve tried to get the wife and kids on board to go ahead and move for a while now but with the boys being sophomores in high school, they have no desire to try and start over with friends. I can understand that since I did it at the same age. For those saying Nebraska, I lived for a little over 5 years. It’s not what you think. I guess Irish is right about greener pastures.

It’s like my friends in Green Bay. We always went up in October and first week of November. Kept asking what the cost of living was and possible jobs etc…. Everyone one said before you decide come back in January and stay for a week. They got their point across.

If you want to stay in the SE, I’ve always thought SC, NC, maybe Virginia. Little further North.

North Georgia mountains. Suches would be my number one choice. We love the hiking, fishing, and the huge public land tracks. After spending all these summers down here on the gulf summer trips up there are a relief from the hear.

Right on the beach or somewhere with very low humidity humidity is the biggy but that ocean breeze helps.

I’m amazed on an Alabama deer hunting forum, so many guys dislike the Deep South. Surprises me. I’ve never thought about or wanted to live outside of the Alabama/ Mississippi area. I like everything about Alabama except the weather. And I didn’t even realize I didn’t like the weather until I realized it’s possible to go an entire week, in July, and not sweat….even in places where it was 110°+ I realize the horse I’m beating is long since dead, but if you remove politics from the discussion, CA is quite possibly the best state in the US. You have everything….beaches, mountains, deserts, plains, farmland, big cities, small towns. And the weather there is absolutely incredible…like to the point of being hard to believe until you experience it first hand. We all joke about kicking CA out or wishing it would fall off into the ocean because of their idiotic politics, but what we should be doing is trying to save CA from itself and “take it back”.

For those who haven't lived in Wy ,There's a reason why it's the least populated state in the US.. Winters can be absolutely brutal. It'll usually snows 9 months / yr in the higher elevation with a stiff wind on most days I have 2 life long friends that live there in different areas and the cold and snow definitely start early there. Duck hunting there is miserable lol

I agree but don’t believe it will ever happen. The libs have a grip on it. Incredibly gorgeous, diverse state. The northern half is stunning, everything north of San Franhellhole. Even just across the bay 30 minutes from downtown is Muir Woods, one of the most beautiful and awe-inspiring places out there. Point Reyes is fabulous. The coast from there to Vancouver is unreal. And throw on the southern Cali beaches, deserts to the east, Yosemite and Shasta, among others. But … there’s no way in hell I’d move there with their taxes and politics. It’ll get worse, too. As to the original post and question, for me it would be Montana or Wyoming. Maybe Idaho or some out-of-the-way place in Colorado, but it’s almost lost to the libs like Cali. And now those libs are gunning for Montana. Idaho and Wyoming are among the last considerations in that area. Possibly western Nebraska. Maybe mid-Kansas. I like that area around Quirva NWR. My wife hates cold weather tho and loves the beach, which I despise. So I’m sure we will end up at or near a beach.

My wife is originally from Ft. Lauderdale and wants to move back When my son gets finished with school in 5 years, we are headed back to mid to South Florida and retiring. I have always loved the beach and fishing in salt water. Can't wait!! That’s funny. I can hardly wait to get out of S FL. Oppressive heat and humidity and controlled by liberals. Really? The only place I have been down there that I would consider liberal is Key West. I have made a few friend in Marathon over the years and they are hard core conservatives. Of the years I have been going to the Keys, I have seen one liberal flying a flag. 100's flying flags for Trump or Desantis or other conservative ideas.
