the Bible says if no one understands the words (no interpreter) then it wasn’t really from God. That’s the way I understand it.

Ok gotcha.. But what are the odds of having one around for that? The time i "witnessed" it everyone around was either like what the heck and only one person explained that she was talking in tongues . But even he looked at her like she had snakes in her head and it was his wife...

It should have been Mark 16:17. It talks about “new tongues”.

Why would the first and most extensive illustration of tongues in Acts 2 be completely contradicted by the verses you listed? I DO appreciate you referencing scripture because it drives me to my Bible and that's exactly where we should be turning to on this subject, not experiential stories or "feelings".

It is the same odds of the Naman’s servant girl knowing the prophet Elisha could heal Naman from his leprosy, or Zacchaeus being short and needing to climb a tree to see Jesus pass by, the miracle of Peter walking on the water, or David’s stone finding the only open space in Goliath’s helmet. God is a Waymaker and He will make a way if needed….

The Holy Spirit is a gentleman and He will not be the author of confusion. When done correctly, your spirit will bear witness to the tongues and interpretation. That’s why the Bible says to try the spirits.

I can say without a doubt I know what I've seen and it's real it's not some feeling, but I don't need validation from anyone. Like 3%outdoors said u can't put God in a box, he's the same yesterday today and tomorrow. Just because after the Bible was written doesn't mean he stopped, there are miracles everyday that he plays a part in. I definitely ain't one to be preaching to anyone but I know what's real. I'm out

I cannot understand how some get the interpretation that they do from reading the same scripture. 1 Corinthians 14 mentioned above is one example.

But there is Bible to it.

All I can say is I grew up going to a Holiness church here in downtown Dothan, AL and our pastor was a woman in her 40's (in the 1980's). She is still the pastor of that church to this day. She would be preaching every Sunday to no more than the 8-15 people that attended that church regularly back then and before too long into the preaching, she would have the Holy Ghost come over her and off she went. She would be eyes closed, hands up, and moving all about the small church speaking in tongues. It was amazing! I wanted it to happen to me, but it never did. It seems like one or two other people had it come to them over the years, but it happened to her every time she preached. If it was fake, she perfected it because she spoke tongues in perfect rhythm. She would be sweating and so loud. I just can't bring myself to believe it was fake. Sweating, extremely loud rhythmic tongue speaking....to 9 less than wealthy people in a tiny, poor church? Why fake that?

I don’t think it contradicts acts 2. I just don’t think it’s talking about the same thing. I need to back and see if the 2 words are the same in the original language.

I’ve never seen it done where it didn’t appear staged or fake. HOWEVER, I do believe that there are times when the Holy Spirit speaks through us. I once stood in a courtroom in Russia trying to explain to a judge how our family could care for a child with a terminal illness. We were adopting him. I began speaking with the aid of an interpreter and literally blacked out. Not pass out, but blacked out. Next thing I know, the judge is in tears, the interpreter is sitting and in tears, and so is everyone else in the courtroom. My wife said I spoke for ten minutes. I remember the first few seconds. She said I shared our faith in Christ and how we felt led to adopt this particular child who was labeled unadoptable. I spoke what I felt was English. The interpreter stopped trying to interpret because she couldn’t keep up. She said that even though I spoke in English, everyone in the room understood me. The judge only spoke in Russian. She came down from her chambers to hug us and thank us. The adoption counselor said she has never witnessed anything like that in her many years in courtrooms. I believe it was the work of the Holy Spirit.

People hav gotten saved from people leading them to Lord in foreign language or language they did not understand

God has never stopped using the holy spirit r miracles - they mainly a diff type - but he still Same - just not parting red sea anymore - but he still could

I am pretty sure 100% of the people on this thread and especially me can only give opinions on speaking in tongues and that true especially if your Baptist like me 🤣🤣

With the social media generation running 10 years strong now you'd have thought we'd get to see it.... whatever "it" is. Religious or Non-Religous. Lot of folks believe in Bigfoot they even got low IQ people running around making TV shows. No trailcam photos though.

Go figure.

I seen one ole boy take a few pulls off a jar of strychnine at a revival at the local boat ramp..... and that was enough for me. I didn't wait round to see them play with their snakes I fished on down the bank away from those weirdos.

No government employees were harmed in the making of this mess.

We don’t have enough snakes for every church in the Alabaster area, so we share them. My church gets them the 2nd and 4th Sundays🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂😂😂 I’m joking!!!!

I think TDog makes a great point. I bet Peter was ridiculed and told that he was crazy….the power of God allowed him to defy the laws of physics by walking on the water, so why is so hard to believe that someone could speak in tongues? Just because we haven’t walked on water or it happened in the past doesn’t mean it couldn’t happen again! We are very quick to limit the power of God! Childlike faith is important. Why do you think it is so simple for a child to accept Christ into their heart vs an older person?

God still moves today just like He did in the past…We serve the same God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Their mustard-size seed of faith is no different than ours.
