You’ll be fine Jawbone. Fellow Former LEO wouldn’t lie to you. I was worried when I had to have one almost 2 years ago but it was fine. Use an Endodontist as earlier post says. As long as the right professional does it with the right equipment. They use special equipment with a microscope and for me the worst part was the shots. She shot me up good and I honestly didn’t feel a thing. It was just like getting a filling but it took a lot longer. But I really didn’t feel any pain. It isn’t like years ago. The dentist told me that and I didn’t believe her but she was right. You got this brother. thumbup

I have had several over the years. Not a big deal for me. Just sit still and do what they say. It will be over before You know it.

I'm unusual for a dental work in that I don't mind the shots. I've been told I have a high tolerance for pain, with that being said however, it is the sound of the drill that sends me over the edge. He gave me the option of sedation so I think I will take that option and get a driver to bring me home. Hopefully, I can be sedated enough to sleep through it or some Versed and just not care.

I've had 2. In each case, the problem had gone on long enough and gotten bad enough that I felt better a couple of hours after the procedure than I had for the last several days.

If the noise of the drill bothers you take an iPod with your favorite tunes and earbuds. That way you won’t hear the drill.

I've had a few root canals and a bridge installed due to a wreck and being young and stupid one time. It's not the pain of the procedures that bothers me. It's the three hands plus dental instruments in my mouth all at the same time and holding my mouth wide open for what seems like forever while I feel like I'm drowning on my own saliva. Get the gas and snooze right through all of the unpleasantness. You'll be glad you did.

What Andalusia said in his first post

Get a really good guy and ask around to check - a really good guy helps / good expert or endo like Andy said

I’ve never had a bad experience except the couple I had to have two root canals on and it wasn’t bad. The first one lasted a few years and another about 15 years. Wasn’t sure could save the last tooth I had one, but did.

There are specialist that do root canals. There’s a husband and wife team in Florence that are jam up. There the only ones that will a secondary root canal.

I grew up with my dentist and I’ve always had some series tooth work done. I hate having my teeth cleaned it’s like fingernails on a chalk board. The new dental hygienist I broke in the as scared to death when i said I’d rather have a root canal than a cleaning. Jimmy walked in a little later on and said you’re getting your wish. Never said that again.

Get it done by an Endodontist, they specialize in root canals and will be faster and better than a General dentist.

Teeth only last so many years after a root canal. Then they will have to be dealt with again. You are basically removing what keeps the tooth alive. If you are headed downhill in the tooth department save all the misery and go ahead and have it pulled. Dentists hate to here the words, "pull it".
I know a guy that had a root canal and the dentist got into the nerves of another tooth. Endless pain for years and then the dentist wanted to do the nearby tooth. No more for me.

Sounds like you are in good hands. If you change your mind and want and endo, there’s a good one down in Huntsville. As said previously, they can actually be “easier” than a filling. Good luck!

Me too, but if you have a good dentist it’s nothing like when we’re kids.

That name is because in the old deer reduction doe tag days, I gave the root canals to the deceased deer.

If you think a root canal is bad, try an inplant. First they yank the old tooth then place a piece of jawbone from a cadaver into the hole. Next they suture it closed for several months. After healing, they open the sutured area and drill into your jawbone and screw a metal post into your jawbone. Last but not least they cement a new crown to the metal post. It’s not only time consuming but also quite costly.

Yeah I'd have em remove that SOB anyhow (if it were me) All my extractions have been performed by an oral surgeon, came out wayyyyyy better on price.... On a side note they always gave me the iv and the googly but could never put me under, became a side bet amongst the nurses 😂
