Typical. The audacity of those parents telling the ump to stay professional for the kids while they’re being moronic.

Y’all have no idea what we experienced at the state tournament in Dixie Youth. I’ll just say none of my children will ever participate again. It was the most awful display of professionalism in baseball I’ve ever witnessed. It was downright embarrassing.

I have no idea what went on before the video, but I umped and reffed for years so I know how idiotic the parents can be and I don't imagine it is better these days. If they started in about his height the good on him for walking off. That had nothing to do with the game and was just a personal attack.

What age level

I coached a 6U team this season and had a parent/coach meeting before it started. I explained to them that the coaches will be the only people speaking to the umpires, if they made rude disrespectful remarks to them or the other teams coaches we would find a different team for their child to play on. I will not punish a child for their parents behavior but wouldn’t gonna put up with it.

10U. It was the worst thing I’ve ever seen in all my years playing and my kids playing.

The word coach these days translates to baby sitter. When my kid was playing a few of the parents would drop their kids off late and then often return late to pick them up from practice. I had to carry a few kids home on multiple occasions. Some of them really wanted to play l but mommas and daddys didn't always share their enthusiasm. Coaching seemed pretty thankless as far as several parents went but most of the kids seemed to appreciate it. We tried to keep it fun for them though.

Now as far as being an umpire, there's no way I'd have ever tried to take on that role. Right at the moment I can't think of a more thankless job. They're hated like politicians, but the thing is, most of them are trying to do the best job they can. Parents should have to rotate being ump instead of working the concessions.

I would agree wholeheartedly except the parent know less about the rules than the kids playing. In my perfect world, every time one of the parents yelled at a coach or umpire they would automatically get field maintenance and preparation duty for upcoming games.

Now in full disclosure, when my son played I yelled plenty at the officials but it was always over lack of knowledge of rules and not over judgement calls. I missed plenty of judgement calls in my officiating days. That just happens. Not knowing the rules is not excusable. I figured out early in my son's playing days that the best place for me to be is in the pressbox running the clock since that had to be someone that has passed the officiating test. With my ailments, I couldn't officiate, but by running the clock I had a good air conditioned seat, got to contribute, and saved the school the cost of paying a clock operator. Plus, they fed us at halftime.

This is what u get from a generation of parents having instant gratification from everything raising children with the same never having been accountable for anything in life which is a mess. Can’t throw a fit when things don’t go ur way and some have never been made to learned that.

I know it happens in other sports but when I worked for my friend shooting youth sports all around the south east. The only places I saw signs about being respectful or leave was the baseball fields.

Parent wise or umpire wise? Some umpires have no business on the field but some parents are insane. Mine play 14u softball and 18u baseball. I’ve seen some of both more times then not

Baseball is a strange sport to me. It’s one of the only sports where it seems acceptable to berate an official and expect them to tolerate it. It seems to be at every age level too. If officials would meet with coaches before each game and tell them mouthy parents won’t be tolerated and they will toss the coaches if it happens, you’d have a lot less of it. (Yes, I played and coached too. Parents made me hate the sport with a passion.) Baseball also seems to be where it’s pretty much expected for a batter to charge the mound. You just don’t see fights in many other sports except hockey. I will say though that if you ever watch a baseball “fight” in slow motion, about the only way anyone will get hurt is if they trip running to the mound. Seldom do they ever land a punch.

Well. Where do I begin? We were cussed at, threatened, harassed, physically assaulted, their coaches allowed to use vulgar language on the field out loud, their kids using sexual gestures on the field, our coach threatened with ejection for wanting to talk to the police after their coach slapped him on the field and the umps ignored it. They wouldn’t award our kids their trophies, and the police ordered us all to leave immediately after the game. I got rather sideways with one officer. The DYB officials, umps and police totally ignored their behavior the entire game. For TWO games. Their coach threatened one of our fans and told him what he was going to do to him after the game was over and they did nothing. The entire tournament was enjoyable and fun, and our boys played their hearts out until the championship game. That team who acted that way ruined nearly a full week of baseball by allowing all that to take place. Didn’t meet a single team that acted that way except them, and I’m only scratching the surface. I had a few discussions with their director, the police (who didn’t care) and wrote letters to several officials, the police chief, the mayor and DYB national directors and have not received a SINGLE response. The behavior we witnessed that night and the lack of response by ALL the officials involved was pathetic, embarrassing and in dead disagreement with the mission of DYB. That’s all I’m saying.

I hate that MBrock. I read the mission statement of Dixie youth league before season. I had to mention that mission to opposing coaches on several different occasions and they were even winning… people are ignorant and rude. I hope the Lord keeps us out of those situations. I hate it for the kids that have those parents bc it’s usually all the kids know to act like in the end..
