Are the new 700’s tapped 8-40 instead of 6-48? I knew they were going with bigger screws for the Alpha I but didn’t think they were changing the standard 700.

The only way to go is up to 8/40’s You’ll be waiting a while if you send it back to Remington

Sounds like the screws are too long and bottoming out. Where you located? Negative. These are the shortest 6-48s available

🤔 “New” Remington sounds a lot like the previous Remington

Are the holes stripped out or threads on screws stripped Neither. I think when they tapped the bottom of the hole with a dull tap make it where it won't pull tension

I'd start by fining out 100% sure what size and pitch it's supposed to be tapped and run a sharp tap in it . Then try new screws. That doesn't work , drill and go the next size up.

I'm going to let Remington handle it. It's brand new out of the box. Stupid problem to have. Ain't screwing with it.

I'm guessing the screws that came out of it tighten down just fine? The plugs you mean? Yes they snug. So do the base screws. But neither will torque to spec.

Dr594 how tight are you trying to torque the base screws? Most base screws are no more than 25 inch pounds. Usually I start at 15 then step up to 25. They wouldn't even torque at 15. Wheeler fat wrench

It it possible the "shortest" screws available aren't grabbing enough thread and you need longer screws? Theres also a screw size between 6-48 and 8-40 that may solve the issue without having to send it back or re-drill and tap for an 8-40. It's a "fix" for a stripped 6-48 hole and you don't have to oversize the holes in the base to accept the larger screw
