Does Sears.com still sell craftsman tools? Anybody bought from them lately? I see a mechanics tool set for <$300. It’s same one we bought son 6 years ago. I heard they were already Chinese made then. But they’ve worked well with the used old school craftsman and snap on ratchets we’ve picked up along the way. Let me know your experience with Sears.com lately , please.
Thanks

sears sold the brand name , i think Ace, Lowes , Northern Tools sales them and a few other places , ive see them and snapon test side by side and snapon lost . guy was testing a 12 point wrench 7/16 of each .

i need to add this . he tested 3 craftsmans we had in the shop (well used ) against 6 snapons (new) off the truck

the test was which one would slip on a 6 point plastic stick. hed put the side by side and turn them against each other .

Battery stuff sucks. Don’t waste your money. Hand tools are still good.

Interesting. All USCG Air Stations have just thousands of snap-on tools and rarely have an issue. There's a well stocked tool box for each aircraft plus multiple tools in every shop. Rarely was a tool swapped out for a new one and some components were torqued to several hundred foot pounds.
The tool that was turned in to the tool rooms the most small inch pound torque wrenches.

I don’t know about now but when Lowe’s first started selling the Craftsman brand, they were hard to deal with on the lifetime warranty. I tried to swap a ratchet and they asked for the original receipt where I had bought it from Sears 30+ years ago. I haven’t bought another Craftsman hand tool since, but that is because the handtools I’ve bought were for spares to keep in glove compartments and such. I’d be interested to know how they are doing now in swapping stuff out. Their battery powered stuff sucks.

Everybody and their brother offers free lifetime replacement on tools so they've lost that competitive advantage.

The new craftsman hand tools SUCK!
My local Lowes will swap broke tools for the EXACT replacement.
The problem is a lot of them have been rediesigned and/or have a different part number than the old ones and they say they are not the same tool.
If you plan to order online, look at tekton.
They have a liftime warranty and will warranty anything with their name on it on matter when or who bought it.
You send them a pic of the broke tool and they will ship you another one.

Is that their Duralast brand? I’ve got a bunch of their wrenches, sockets, & screw drivers because AZ was the closest parts house to my old shop.

Yeah. When I need something I don't have, for just a job or two, in a pinch , I've been getting their stuff. Seems pretty good to me.

I read their new lifetime warranty and you must return the tool to the store you bought it from. So anything bought at Sears is no longer in that group.

Heck I’m wondering how the ICON series from HF is.

I have multiple craftsman sets and I have no complaints BUT I don’t make a living with them and they’ve done everything I’ve asked them to.

I don't know about the rest of their stuff but the tool drawers are absolute junk. The last 2 trailers I have bought came with them built in to the cabinets and I won't buy another if they won't use another brand.

I’ve been buying the GearWrench brand of hand tools and have been very satisfied.
I tried them after watching the Project Farm videos on YouTube.
Tractor supply and Carquest carries this brand, but I buy most of my stuff on Amazon.

About 30 years ago, I found one half of a plastic handle, off of a hand saw. No blade or anything. It had one bolt on the handle that said “Craftsman”. I took it to Sears and they swapped it out. They didn’t have one with a plastic handle so they gave me one with a wooden handle which I preferred anyway. Didn’t charge me a penny and never questioned me. That saw is still hanging in my garage today.
