I've never heard anyone especially happy with them.......the screen type end up clogged with those little curly/twisty things or leaf stems get stuck in them and they end up clogging. The hard covers with the small gap on the edge seem to work well in a light rain but most will tell you that a heavy rain will just wash straight over them like you don't even have gutters.

Best answer seems to be that there isn't any shortcut....just roll with regular gutters and accept that they have to be cleaned periodically.

I have a tree over one side of my house. Was going to do those cheap metal covers from home depot.

The only people I hear lauding them, have just had them installed...never from anyone that has had them a while.

I think I'm just replacing the foam things from HD in my gutters. I just blow off with my blower.

Best gutter guards are no gutters and perimeter french drains.

I took the gutters off my house and have been happy with that decision for over 18 years.

I had them installed several years ago. Recently noticed water leak in same general area.

Roofing estimator advised me to get rid of the gutter guard as it caused the problem. Said they are the number one cause of roof leaking issues that they deal with.

I would but we get too much rain. We get Mobiles average rainfall in roughly 8mos here. If not for hunting, I'd move lol

I have a screen type that mount flat, flush with the gutters. They don't get clogged and they work.

I'm a home inspector. Gutters are the third most important part of any home, behind 1. Foundation and 2. Roof. Gutter guards should not be considered home improvement. They should be considered maintenance freedom. Properly installed and maintenanced gutters, that terminate an adequate distance from the home, can reduce or prevent moisture issues with a foundation. That's their purpose.

The Holmes on homes guy recommends some and they work pretty good but pricey.

I agree, my problem is I went as cheap as I could when I had gutters installed, biggest mistake Ive made. Now Im looking at replacing them with a reputable company. My problem is to add a gutter guard that is supposedly has a lifetime warranty against clogging or damage cost more than the gutter. What type of flat screen are you talking about? Ive looked at several, they vary in price. I just want something that does what they say it will do. Thanks

When I built houses years ago, one homeowner got a price for adding gutter guards to his new home. When he told me the price, I told him that was FOUR times the cost of the gutters and downspouts. Let him know he would be better off investing the money and using the earnings to pay someone to clean his gutters once a year.

The scam artists selling this garbage are making HUGE profits selling some thin metal. It's all a sales scam, which is why we are bombarded with their ads on TV and radio.

Had a large home with a cut up roofline in Albertville around 2007. Wife saw an ad and made a phone call. I told her the price will be outrageous. Anyway, the salesman shows up and insists on completing his presentation after I ask him to at least give us a ballpark figure. I patiently sat through his hour long presentation even though I tuned out after his refusal to veer off of his sales pitch. I was trying to be a polite host after all. It was a chore. Wife sat and listened intently through it all not knowing what I knew before he showed up. He finally got to the part where he walked around the house with a tape and then went to his car and did some figuring. When he came back he had a quote in his hand that was close to 25K. I was expecting that about 5K would be a normal price for a gutter install back then. Rainguard or something like that was the name of the company. I told him that over an hour and a half ago I tried to save us both some time and that the price was way over what was to be expected and he knew it is why he insisted on finishing his sales pitch. That's when he went completely off the rails that he was already teetering on. He said I was rude and I told him what I thought about his tactics and that I should have ran him off when he first refused to talk dollars and sense. He had been somewhat rude from the get go and it got exponentially worse from this point. He tried to appeal to my wife and fell on deaf ears. It was a great time for him to leave and I told him so. I guess that wasn't a clear enough hint because he still tried to say something about me needing his product. So I told him that his car had better not be in my driveway in 60 seconds. This time he took it the way I meant it. I sold that house a few years later and bought the farm I have now. I'm pretty sure the house is still standing and I don't think the current owner has installed gutter guards.

Metal,

What you just described I just went through with AFS. Dude come at 4:30 wouldn’t talk price until he went through his sales pitch. At 7:15 I told him enough was enough. Don’t understand how these salesman think people want to listen to 3 hours of BS. Needless to say, AFS is OFF my radar!!!

Sounds like a scam given the tv commercials I’ve seen. Guess gutter guards are like aluminum siding back in the old days. Always some new scam out there. rofl
