I can't imagine killing something only to not eat it or mount it or pelt it out.

I shoot all I can. Also kill coyotes, fox, coons, possums, skunks and crows with the same vigor. No more twinges of conscience than killing fire ants or rats.

Bobcats, coyotes, foxes and hogs get shot at in sight. Sometimes coons and possums get fired upon also if I’m in one of those moods.

You would think that but surprisingly the studies just dont show that to be the case........

https://seafwa.org/sites/default/files/journal-articles/MILLER-100-111.pdf

"In spite of their high density on the study areas, bobwhite quail were found only twice
in all the material examined, I in May and the other in November. The low frequency of
occurrence of quail in this study is in general agreement with other studies that have found
quail in the bobcats' diet (Davis 1955, Kight 1962, and Fritts 1973). If the bobcat were a
serious predator on bobwhite quail, it should have been obvious on the present study
areas, which supported high densities of both bobwhites and bobcats. Those quail that do
occur in the bobcats' diet might be explained by change encounter (Leopold 1933). It is
particularly noteworthy that most of the food habits materials was collected on areas with
high turkey populations, but no turkey occurred in the bobcats' diet. Unidentified birds
are present in Tables 2,3, and 4 and, although positive identification has not been made,
none of thil>~materialresembles bobwhite quail. These findings agree with those of
Beasom and Moore (1977), who found that when rodent populations were high, birds
were relatively unimportant in the bobcats' diet."

I usually let them walk, coyote is a different story.....I have killed two bobcats in all the years that I have been hunting, I just don't see enough of them to shoot them when I see them....they are always a pleasure to watch in the wild, especially when they are on the hunt....

Last year I got bye cheap $1500 plus fields on my property and feed so I spent probably $2500 plus. Year before I spent probably $4-5000. Not sure what the amount on dues has to do with anything. A 4-5 year old 4-6pt is as good a deer as a 150”. No telling how many yotes or cats I’ve killed and deer come by minutes later.

The numbers here are working out about like expected…..The vast majority of folks are shooting bobcats on sight…..Also as expected a lot of folks have made comments about how few they see anymore.

I’m just speculating here but I think we’re probably just “shooting” ourselves in the foot by killing them. Numerous studies show their main diet consisting mostly of rodents and rabbits. According to studies its actually very rare for them to eat quail or turkeys. I’m sure some will think otherwise but that’s what the numbers show…….Wiping out bobcats is very likely just feeding more rodents to the hawks and owls and increasing their populations. Just something to ponder over when you look up and see the sky full of flying cats.

That’s great but how much in dues at my lease is what I implied. Until you pay dues in my lease then your opinion on my rules are irrelevant.

I used to shoot them. Last 10 or so I’ve seen I let walk. Coyotes and a wild hogs are a different story.
