We went to the Dominican Republic several years ago to one of the all inclusive resorts. It amazes me that the island is split by a border that seems to work because DR is all tourist resorts and Haiti is a mess. That border must have crumbled like the southern border between the US and Mexico because there are currently all kinds of travel warnings for Americans traveling the DR. Gang violence, sexual assaults, murders, kidnappings etc. Supposedly pretty rough down there now.
