Good morning. I’m taking a poll for an upcoming project. Turkeys in the Deep South are a different breed. I’m interested to hear from some of the killers on here. I appreciate your responses.

Yes. I've had a ton of them that have educated me, lol
They want only soft quite calls that are short and subtle....purrs and clucks, whines, not much of any type call. Just need to know the zip code your in.

yes, usually man made...
I hunted one that would run from a real hen yelping. He had been spooked and or shot at several times. I set up ahead of him on the edge of a soy bean field. At 30 yards I silently told him I would let him live IF he broke into a strut when I yelped. At the yelp he spun and ran away...but not fast enough. I let the Ithica 10ga eat.
I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....

Yes. I don’t think a turkey is any different than a spooky old buck. Pressure and the environment can make one call shy very quickly.

I will say yes, but it depends entirely on your definition of call shy. All of them are if it's overdone, but maybe none are if everything is right. I used to say that I had never scared one with a cluck on the trumpet, and then I found one that shut up and left after a cluck. He had been harassed so much that he couldn't tolerate anything but a hen who would come to him quietly.
