I have used mineral licks with success through the years. Most of the time I had them on the edge of greenfields. The only problem is you end up with a big hole that you have to contend with when cutting and planting your fields. Do any of y’all just put licks in random spots off the beaten path to avoid this? What is your opinion for best lick locations?

I have always put them 1) close to water 2) close to bedding 3) easily accessible 4) evenly spaced across the entire property.

Where ever you put them the deer will find them if they need minerals but some soil is better than others. Try to find a spot with more of a clay consistency or a big rotting log/stump if sandy soil is all that is available.

I always put them close to water, on a dead stump close to greenfields. Got one that looks like they’re digging to China

Always within about 75yds of year round water. You place it, they will come. I had a hole in Russell county several years ago that was about 4ft deep 20ft long and 12ft wide. I started with a single 50lb bag of white salt the first year and added two more bags per year after the second or third year. The hole was 7 or 8 years old last I saw it. This was before it was legal to use minerals.
