Does anyone have any recommendations of who they have used to put out AG Lime in SW Alabama, specifically Sumter Co? We have a family camp just south of York in Whitfield and looking for options to put out some lime. Thanks in advanced.

Good luck getting someone to spread it. Lots of mills or Farm Centers will sell you the lime and even deliver it to your property, but spreading it is something else.

I ended up having to get mine delivered and dumped and then I loaded it with the FEL and had to spread it with a buggy. Looked everywhere and couldnt find anyone that was still running a lime truck in the Wilcox, Dallas, Marengo area. Rock roads and big fields 1.5 - 4 acres so size and access was not the reason, which would typically be the case. Unless your commercially farming, I dont think anyone is doing it anymore.

Did you do it that way b/c you needed a lot more lime than just one trip back and forth with the buggy? Or did you use some other kind of buggy besides what the coop rents?

I got a guy from Linden to spread mine a couple of years ago. I got the coop in Faunsdale to order 26 tons of lime dumped on my place and then used front loader on tractor to load the spreader truck. His last name was Drinkered.

Gilbertown Farm & Feed now has lime available. Friend of mine had someone from MS spread his in Choctaw, $75/ton

Leroy co op has a buggy and lime

Yeah, that'll do it. I was hoping to learn about some new food plotter style of a lime spreader! Pike coop will spread or at least used to and they just charged more per ton. We had a 26 acre pond at my last place in Troy and first year we had it, had to put 5 tons per acre in it. That was something to watch....and pay for.

His first name is Gabe. His truck is 2wd, roads must be good, he mainly does row crop and pastures. His busy time is when a pulpwood mill is cleaning it’s slag out. It’s free, just pay to have a dump truck deliver it.

I rented a dump trailer from Home Depot last month and got a 4,600lb and 3,800lb load from the Shelby county farmers co-op. We did not have a way to efficiently spread it so we used 5gal buckets, walking around shaking them out over 2 acres of green fields. We came to the conclusion after that was over that were never doing that again! I need to find a deal on one of those gandy pull behind drop spreaders - would not recommend the 5gal bucket method unless you’re in really good shape and still feel like being sore from head to toe for a week.

Sides makes a 3 pt hitch spreader that will handle ag lime, but be prepared for sticker shock. Everyone says “but the lime has to be dry” hell that even applies to lime buggies. You’ve not had fun until you dealt with line bridging in a buggy.

Co-op in Frisco City had a small half size lime buggy but it’s been down for repairs for well over 6 months. There’s a market for lime and custom blend fertilizer that can be loaded into buggies that a half ton truck can pull. If lime is $75/ton loaded into a larger buggy I’d gladly pay $100/ton vs paying $350/ton for pelletized lime.

Where do you get pelletized lime for 350 a ton?

k busch, talk to John T-ville. Last year he was around $350 for a five ton buggy loaded, just hook up and go. The wood lean-too on the SE corner is the lime bin.

I didn't even see any on their website, that was where I went and looked before I asked. Maybe it's just a temporary stocking thing. Have you bought multiple tons from them before?
