I can’t stand Morgan Wallen’s hollow, soulless version of Cover Me Up. Maybe it’s because I just don’t like him, but then again I can’t stand Jason Isbell either but Jason’s version is untouchable. The amount of soul and feeling is unreal. Particularly when you remember he wrote it about himself, to his wife who helped him get clean, whose standing right behind him playing fiddle when he performs it. MW’s version ought not even be mentioned in the same converse as the original.
Liberal whack job but one of the best song writers/performers alive today , in my opinion.
