If you are a tent camper and don’t need the room in the back to sleep, don’t overlook a Subaru Outback or Forester. We rent one every year on a hunting trip in the Pacific Northwest and those things will go most anywhere a 4wd will and they get great fuel mileage. We throw all our stuff in the back and haul arse. Not nearly as much room as a 4 runner or Land Cruiser but definitely an option if you are not looking to sleep in the vehicle.

Nothing "wrong" with the RAM, and a camper shell would improve my trips. Personal preference no doubt, I want a quieter and more maneuverable vehicle, that can park in more places and go further down some of our states skinny public trails. My RAM is a big ole loud beast that has the worst steering radius known to man.

I have a 97 4runner that’s a great hunting vehicle

I use a 93’ second Gen 4Runner with the roll up back window. 4x4 and straight shift. 33” BFG mud terrains. Nothing better! I had it for sale here a while back. I never have to lock it in 4x4 at all, and it doesn’t have enough power to tear itself up! Lol

I got a 96 4-runner with 155k miles. Glad I got sellers remorse before letting Gatorbait get his paws on it.
