I'm Trying to set up a 20ga to shoot with TSS. I have a Remington 870 youth model and got a Jeb's .565 but not satisfied with the results so far with Apex straight 9s TSS.

Was wondering for anyone else that might have a Rem Youth 870 set up for Apex 9s, what choke do you use and what's the pattern showing at 40 yards?

What do you want the pattern to look like?
Are you a “count the 10 ring” guy or a hunting pattern guy?

I don’t have an 870 20, but several guys I shoot and hunt with do. Some are on here and maybe they will chime in. The best long range patterns I’ve seen are from a .555 IC and Hal’s MOA load.

A lot of folks like the 1 5/8 oz loads and Carlsons 575 or 585 chokes for a more open and even pattern.

I shoot a trulock .575 in a 870 and it serves me well. Gives close to a 250/250 pattern in the 10 and 20 which is what i prefer.

I shoot an IC .570. Out of mine this is Hal’s big20xl 1-5/8 #9s
.570-.575 seems to be a sweet spot for them. I have a.562 and it’s a tight pattern. [Linked Image]

Carlson 575 is hard to beat. What I use in two different 870s.

Unfortunately, I didn't take a picture of it. I will next time.

I shoot the standard full choke with both Apex 8s and 9s in my 20ga 870 and youth 1100. I was real impressed with the performance last spring in Texas. It will kill a turkey stone dead way out there. I will leave that right there.

I'd try a cheap Primos Tightwad. That choke has patterned well in 3 straight guns for me. I'm currently shooting it in a Wichester Longbeard SXP 20 guage with 9s and its deadly farther than I'll shoot one.

I have exact same setup but with a .555. I’d rather have the .565 as the .555 is extremely tight. Make sure your barrel is dirty believe it or not it makes a world of difference. Mine shoots terrible with a clean barrel run a few bird shot through it and it’s good to go.

Go a .575 or .585 constriction…I shoot a trulock .585 but both seem to throw great hunting patterns that would kill as far as you wanna kill em

There shouldn’t be anything wrong with the .565 jebs shooting 9s. What specifically about the pattern were you not happy with?

Shooting a trulock 575 out of a 870 youth compact (19" barrel). Mine never liked being choked to much.
