If it's horizontal to the side of the home, it's easy. Home Depot has a brush kit that attaches to your drill. Easy peasy.
This is what I have. Ordered the kit from Amazon. How often should this be done? Yearly? Monthly? Well...... as per usual, my effort to save some money will end up costing me more. The 90 right below the dryer is that old galvanized venting material. Anyway, it must have collected some moisture over the years and rusted. The cleaning rod wasn't coming out of the vent outside. That's when I noticed that it was going through the rusted spot on the 90. Now, I'll have to cut the hard ceiling in the basement, replace the 90, AND clean it out when I get done..... I run mine from the outside of the house to the to the dryer. Just take off the trap door on the outside of the house. I run it more in the summer time as the moisture builds up in the pipe and it smells like mildew in the dryer when it heats. The lint that builds up in the pipe stops the moisture from draining. Yes you'll need to replace the 90 degree elbow, but you may be able to work it through the wall at the dryer into the pipe in the ceiling. I'd check that out before cutting into the ceiling downstairs. You may even get one of the flexible galvanized pipes to work. God Bless, David B.

That is EXACTLY how it ALWAYS works out for me. Not to one up you - but I was digging last weekend looking for a plumbing leak in the 3/4” service line going into the house and ended up breaking one of the 2” drain gray water lines from the kitchen to the main septic line.
