I'm in Bham. What should this cost to have done? Is there an easy, effective way for a homeowner to do this themselves?

Thanks,

I have a shop vac. I think the hose I have for it might be a little wide for the vent. Is there an attachment for that?

I bought the cleaning kit off Amazon for like $20. 30ft of flexible line that attaches to your drill. I did it in about 30min or so. Watch a you tube video. Very easy to do yourself.

Are you talking the vent that goes outside or just the vent where the trap goes in on the dryer?

If it vents through the attic make sure it's clean there. You may have to get on the roof.

Just ordered this. Even if it doesn't work or only works once, it's WAY cheaper than what I was quoted by a service company. Thanks!

My dryer vents through the attic. About every 2yrs I have a guy come out and he cleans it for me from the dryer all the out to the roof for $100. I bought a dyi kit once and did it but by the time I moved the dryer, did all the cleaning and clean up I quickly realized it was worth $100 every couple years to have it done.

I just replace mine. But it doesn't go through the attic

My office had a vent that went up through the ceiling and vented out through the soffit. It was a longer run and had a small blower in-line to keep the lint moving and the pipe clean.

We were just talking about this early this morning. I've tried the cleaning kit. It has a brush, fiberglass rods that you attach it to a drill. I was amazed at how much stuff it got out. However, our dryer still gets so hot that the clothes actually are too hot to touch. Dryer guy came out and remplaced thermostat ect and it was all fine. So I'm thinking there still may be stuff stuck in the vent. Around here they charge upwards of $400 to come out on the roof and clean the dryer vent. I climbed up there last year and quickly realized I am way to old and inexperienced to attempt to clean out that vent on the roof with that much pitch.

Mine goes through attic. Shi$TY design.
I disconnected through roof part, so it vents to attic.
To clean downspout to dryer i use a 20ft extention pole with a
Rounded soft bristle brush.
Cleans it great.

Mine runs from the dryer down thru the floor that is then routed thru the basement and then vents out under the covered front porch. I used a leaf blower to blow mine out once I moved the dryer to get to it.

If it's horizontal to the side of the home, it's easy. Home Depot has a brush kit that attaches to your drill. Easy peasy.

If it's vertical, to an upper exterior wall or roof, it can be a little harder. If it runs to the roof, it may be easier to remove a small section of the duct, clean everything (use a shop vac to help collect the lint. Reattach the duct and seal with proper HVAC duct tape and you are good to go.

I see a lot of vertical vents that become occluded. The cloths get hot but not dry. Eventually burns up the heating element on the dryer.

Mine goes about 2 feet to a vent in the wall of my house.

This is what I have. Ordered the kit from Amazon. How often should this be done? Yearly? Monthly?

Doing this will cause the lint that does pass the filter to be disbursed into your attic which is a major fire hazard.

Are you saying you disconnected your through roof portion and just vent your dryer into your attic? If so, wouldnt that cause mold and potential rotten wood due to the warm moist air being pumped into the attic?
