Is there a lot of difference in the top three or four major brand name bows? I know Mathews and Hoyt have great marketing and pay their shooters well but are they that much better?

Nope. All of them make a great product but you'll get some brand snobs that will tell you different. Go shoot several and pick the one you like best.

They all have their pros and cons. What may be a con for me will be a pro for someone else. Obviously I'm partial to Mathews. I like the way they shot and I know all the tricks to get the best performance out of one.

^^^ THAT

I think it comes to personnel preference on those 3. I shot the heliu m and the vector. The vector won because it felt better to me. Good luck in your decision.

You forgot Bowtech. wink

Actually, I was talking to the owner of a large Archery shop in Alabama recently who sells Bowtech, Mathews and Hoyt. He said the Carbon Matrix is his 2nd best selling bow. That bow is around $1200 and I was shocked how many he sells each year. My question is, is the extra $300-$400 worth it? I guess it's a matter of opinion like everything else.

Where I bought my bow the Carbon is the best selling. I know all I did was look at it I wouldnt shoot it... Cuz the extra $400 bucks would have got me divorced! It has the same limbs and cams as the vector just the riser is different and it is only 3.5 pounds...

I don't know if you have considered any of the smaller companies, but I own a mathews and a Strother. I would much rather shoot the Strother. Just food for thought.

I'd add Bear, Strothers, K&K, and Elite to that list too....Hard to buy a "bad" bow these days....

I love the insanity but I have never pulled a smoother bow than a mathews. the heli-m was pure butter. all are expensive but get what you feel confident in shooting because it aint worth nothin if you dont feel good shooting it.

btw - pulled back an obsession lethal force the other day and almost bought it. its a solid bow.

Wish there was somewhere around here to shoot some of these bows. I am in the market for a new one, but not buying one before i shoot it. Neither backwater, nor the elite dealer in lynchburg has any Elite's on hand to shoot. Custom archery on south parkway has a hard time getting any obsessions.... Right now I am stuck between the $1k dollar insanity xl, and the vector 35....

Agreed...I have shot alot of different ones but come purchase time I keep going back to Bear. Theres a reason they were one of the first around before any of these "newer" companies even existed. I think they are some of the most underated bows on the market. Ill say this too...I have NEVER heard a mathews, hoyt, etc... as quiet as my Attack straight out of the box.

Backwater normally has elites and they carry Bear, Pearson, and Matthews... might want to try them again. I've been wanting to try the obsessions as well, but they are having trouble getting them out the door fast enough and Custom Archery isn't making any extra effort to get them in. (I contacted Obsession directly and they offered to send me a bow to try out and return if I didn't like it...how's that for customer service?) The place in Lynchburg used to also carry Strother. I have a K&K that you can come shoot whenever you want. I'm waiting on the 2013 offerings from Obsession, because I have a feeling something unusual is gonna pop out from them. Also, don't forget New Breed and Athens if you can find somewhere to try them out. New company called Stevens Archery is also coming out with some smoke!

I would listen to foldemup on the bow picking. You will NEVER run across somebody with better equipment and not ever kill anything with it.

Jughead, this is true! I'll try to get with foldemup and shoot his k&k. I'll check with backwater again. Im also probably going to wait till the new models come out in october. Need something faster and a little lighter than my old bowtech allegiance. Hopefully can find something as smooth. The vector i shot was not even close to dead in the hand, but it had a smooth draw.
