Haven't been to a shoot since I was a teenager me and a couple buddies have been talking about shooting a few this year just for practice in the off season. The main problem we are facing right now is slowing our bows down enough to hit that 280fps rule. We all shoot 30+ inch draw lengths with newer 70lb draw matthews bows. I hate to change my hunting setup just to shoot these. How strict are they with speed rules if we aren't really looking to compete?
We will burn that bridge when we get there

If you’re just looking to shoot the BHA’s, you can just shoot “fun” rounds and not turn your card in. You wouldn’t have to worry about the speed limit. If you’re looking to turn your card in and compete, you’ll have to adhere to the rules. As long as you’re under 288fps, you are legal. Local BHA shoots probably would never chrono, but the larger shoots are subject to. ASA doesn’t fool around. They’re liable to have a chrono set up checking speed anywhere at anytime. I haven’t looked at any of the rules in a few years. Not sure if they’ve up’d the speed limits or not.

Just checked ASA. There’s a few classes with a 290fps speed limit. With the 3% margin of error allowed for chronos you have to be under 299fps. BHA follows ASA rules.

www.asaarchery.comwww.bowhuntersofalabama.orgIf you shoot a fun round speed ain't much of deal. As long as you declare it as a fun round when you sign up. All of the 290 fps classes are the 50 yard classes. Known 50, known pro, open pro, semi pro 280 fps for 45 yard classes.
