It’s a great deer caliber. I have a Remington model 700 that’s great to shoot. I have a Winchester model 70 featherweight that is the hardest kicking rifle I have ever shot.

I had one those in 30-06 and man that thing would put a hurting on you. Didn’t keep it long. To painful to shot. My youngest son wanted a 270 for “his” first gun and loves it. Only caliber my dad ever used out side of the ole 30-30. He killed whitetail and mule deer with it. Hard to go wrong with it. Good luck.

My wife said no to 270 even with reduced recoil factory ammo. Basically the same thing in a handloaded 7mm08, she liked fine. The difference is the 7mm08 is more efficient due to diameter, and perhaps some things I don't understand, using several grains less powder to do about the same thing. That said, I was talking to another gal the other day who thinks shooting full-house 270 is fun. I think the weight of the rifle will be important. I had wood thumbhole stock encore pro hunter 270 that was not too bad. It wasn’t light though. Had a limb saver pad on it. Reduced recoil ammo would be very nice until she got used to it

I have a Tikka T3lite in 270 caliber that I never feel when I pull the trigger. Best shooting gun I have ever owned. If you can't shoot this one, you need to hang it up.

270 the hardest kicking gun you ever shot? Bunch of damn girls in here.... Be my guest. You have an open invitation to come shoot it anytime you want to. Then you can shoot a .300 weatherby magnum and you make the decision for yourself. I’ll supply everything.

Let me recommend a 260. Plenty of killing power and less recoil. If it were me I would opt for a 243. It will do the job with correct bullet placement. I know this for sure. I never had a cripple. Some may say its not enough gun and I suspect they dont hit a vital area. I have seen deer shot with a 7 mag that were not found for a few days. because the were not hit in the right place Good luck with your search Words of wisdom

270 is a fine caliber, so is the 7-08, the 7 mag, the 25-06 and a host of other cartridges. The fine print will be in the gun and how it’s handled by the shooter. The way we are made, the clothes we wear usually while hunting, our ability to accept recoil, the trigger, etc. go into what makes a fine rifle for us. The 270 will kill most anything in N.A. and do it well.
