I wouldn't set foot in UAB. You realize that almost all medical facilities are like UAB in many ways, right? They have policies people don't like, such as masks inside. They are "in business" with Pharma and other companies, companies that all will have something - one thing, several things - that are "woke" or "bad" or "terrible." They all work with insurance companies. They all are capitalists. The ones hooked up to universities typically have research facilities, which means they work with the government, donors and companies for research grants, investments and donations. Returns are expected. Tests and trials are required. So when you're in need of serious healthcare, more than a box-doc or perfect physician like the one you want or seek can provide you, where are you going to go? I'm not trying to be an ass right now. I'm legit curious. You clearly despise UAB, and many other places are like it. If you or someone in your family needed some kind of serious, immediate medical care that UAB could provide - and no one else arould could - would you stick with your principles and (possibly) suffer while trying to find something else, or would you go there? I would go somewhere else. UAB's policies extend to all their medical facilities. Even clinics. UAB killed people by following the remdesivir/vent model for treating patients with covid. It was very clear to me last year when I talked to my primary care doc she hadn't read squat on the vaccine side effects. She just said I needed to take it. No I don't. I despise corporate medicine. When they blackball doc's who don't follow the protocol, but who are having success, its wrong. It puts $ ahead of patients. I am not naive enough to think this behavior is just a UAB thing, its others too. But at least Baptist Shelby said they would treat covid with ivermectin. So someone there at least has the sense to see what they were doing wasn't working.

I want to go see one. Yes, I can ask my primary for recommendations but wanted to hear from the patient side for suggestions. I'm 43, high blood pressure which seems to be genetic. Been taking some meds but they only help a little. Haven't always had the healthiest habits but doing better now. I just want to get a full shake down with a specialist to see what I'm really working with. Who do you like in Birmingham? PM me what hospital’s you can go to or want to go to. I will hook you up. You're a good dude BB.

Blissful igorance is still ignorance.
I guess if you had a rare form of leukemia and the only doctor in alabama that specializes in it is at UAB then you’d just choose to not get treated right? Them making you wear a mask just isn’t relevant in some case. Personally, I'd go to MD Anderson in Houston where they have dozens specializing in it, before I'd go to one doctor at UAB that treats it.

Last I heard, MD Anderson requires everyone to use one of their masks and successfully go through their entry screening process.

I was more making fun of everyone on here that thinks that UAB is the one and only, best of all time, "be all/end all" for the best hospital and doctors and the absolute best care you can get anywhere. Hate to tell all the believers on here, but that just is not true. There are teaching and specialty hospitals all over the US. UAB may or may not be the best in some areas but they definitely are not be best, or even in the top 5 or 10 when it comes to cancer treatment. I'm sure UAB has some great orthopedic surgeons too, but if I need my shoulder repaired or my knee scoped, I'm having the Andrew's Institute do it.

When i had surgery back in 06 at uab they had some if the bettr heart guys around and one of the best in the country in Dr. Mcgiffin
That may hav changed
I did just google which hospital Is best know for best heart Dr in Alabama - UAB came up #1 on several of the listings
Good luck w your search - hav not read this thread closely - what others are saying may be the best. UAB and the dr i used at the time in 06 were some of the best in the country - he no longer practices i dont think - they just always been pretty well know for hear docs in the past
Hunt the wind - leave it better than you found it - love your neighbor as you love your self We need prayer for our country now more than ever

Personally, I'd go to MD Anderson in Houston where they have dozens specializing in it, before I'd go to one doctor at UAB that treats it. MD Anderson is a very long way from here and I can’t necessarily afford to fly to Houston every 3 months. My doctor is in touch with several other doctors who specialize in what I have and he consults them often. So far I have done pretty well with it but that can change in an instant. I have often thought about going to Vanderbilt but unless I have serious changes then I will stay put at UAB

Back to the subject at hand. I have had experience with and highly recommend Dr. Mullens with the group in Alabaster.

Since you are in Chilton. I really like the St Vincent complex on hwy 119 in Shelby Co. Great doctors, very laid back, good parking. Has a small town feel to it. I highly recommend

Guys. I assure you that there is a great cardiologist at almost every hospital n the Birmingham area. There are also several ones that are horrible. You would never know which ones are good or bad unless you are in the know.

Leakage?? Valve? Aortic or Mitral?? Blockage??? From ultrasound???? Peripheral vascular or carotid? Give me a little help and I will lead you home. Right now the crumb trail is a little weak.
