They are having an equipment auction down here this weekend. My wife wants a small tractor to piddle with, but we don’t want to spend what new costs. Anyone have experience with auctions, is it worth going? They have several low hour units that would work.

Their being auctioned for a reason. The one big equipment auction North of Huntsville you need to know what your buying. City County State equipment and stuff that would not sell at other auctions.

There are pretty reasonable priced small tractors on Facebook marketplace pretty regular. You could atleast go look at it and try it out that way

Look for Evan Wedgeworth equipment on Facebook. He’s in the Demopolis and Livingston area. Good honest guy (NOT everyone in the used tractor business is). I’ve sold him my personal tractor and would buy my next one from him in a heartbeat. Tim Jones in Mendenhall MS is the ONLY other one I would buy from sight unseen.

If you want a utility size (not compact) try Rod Laduron at Sunsouth in Demopolis. I’ve bought a couple 50 hp 2wd JD from him that come from fish pond aerators work. Out in weather all the time

All the equipment auctions I have gone to the last couple of years used stuff brings as much or more than new ! Buyer’s premium adds 10-20 % onto the final price. Marketplace is a better option or going to a dealer and buying used . They usually give you a short warranty even with used equipment.

Truth , I too have seen auctioned equipment bring stupid high prices , then they tack on the buyers fee.

Thanks for introducing me to FBMP. Found a JD1025 with FEL, 60” belly mower and something I’ve been wanting, a quick disconnect backhoe. Will use the hoe at camp when it dries up to dig drains where water stands and install a few culverts where needed. Will dig a few deep holes at the camp to dump carcasses in, it’s a pain digging with a loader.
