What the hell are PFA's?

It’s two fold. Farm raised fish aren’t eating other fish, so bioaccumulation can’t happen. It’s also the water source. Farm raised fish aren’t getting water from rivers with chemical plants on them.

Perfluoroalkyl substances. They’re forever chemicals that will never degrade or go away and cause cancer.

I don’t dispute the results, but it wouldn’t stop me from eating fish when I wanted.

PFA's are not good. SouthBamaSlayer is correct. He's not a researcher who was bribed, just a man who has worked in industry.

Store bought fish may have less PFA's, but there are still plenty of harmful chemicals in them. Waterways have been our toxic waste dump since the industrial revolution, it shouldn't be a surprise.

The wrapping on a lot of food items is coated with PFA's. Ever wonder why a piece of paper can be soaking wet and covered in grease without tearing, that's PFA's. There really isn't anything you can do to eliminate exposure, but reducing exposure is not a bad idea. Don't let this stop you from fishing, but don't eat too much from heavily polluted waterways. I'd probably avoid the Tennessee River directly downstream of Decatur.

I bet the Tilapia they use to clean the Poo Poo out of the waste water in China are NOT going to be the type of fish that's actually bad for you. No, No.... That's gonna be the "good" a.k.a. Healthy fish.

I can tell you that most, if not all, MS Delta catfish ponds use well water to pump up. I know of a couple in East MS that had pumping permits for Catalpa Creek, but most use wells.
Funny you mentioned Isola (or even know where it is!), as that’s where I grew up on a row crop and catfish farm.

This is why I eat my fish from China. nothing but chemical plants around me so it's took the fun out of fishing.

Years ago being told by some guys that worked in one of those plants that they released chemical waste in the early hours of the morning so it would be diluted by daybreak kinda was disturbing.

Wow - I had no idea. My wife and I love tilapia (pretty inexpensive frozen filet variety) fish tacos - probably eat them once every couple of weeks. We may have to change fish.

Truthfully they are farmed in closed loop systems where their poop fertilizes the aquaponic plants and then they feed off the plants.
There was a special where Toyota sponsors a 3 story factory that grew farm to table type foods to restaurants in Chicago. Very interesting exposé for a few hours. It was more detailed than what I described. They were showing alternatives to land based farming

While I was driving to Birmingham this morning my buddy and I were talking over the phone about this very thing. Filled with well water... We both love us some farm raised catfish.
