The kid is not wrong!

Sounds like he’s smarter and more valuable than most folks twice his age.

I’d let him do as he pleases.

I can’t think of a single high paying career that “only” a high school diploma is required, but a GED isn’t sufficient.

Sounds like he’s future leader of your business and we all know a high school degree won’t help him there.

The world needs a few million more just like him.

I wonder if he can't finish early? I hated school, and I suck at taking a standardized test. I have ADD to a certain degree, and adderal would have been life altering for me in high school, and college. I wish I would have had someone sit down with me and just cover my options. I could have dropped out and taken a GED and passed it easily in my junior year. School bores me.

I don't regret graduating, but I think I could have made alot more $ doing something besides business jobs or accounting.

Surely he could graduate early right?

Tough decision, but graduating with a high GPA from an IB school is nothing to sneeze at. At least if he guts it out and finishes somehow, it preserves that diploma in the case somehow he develops an interest in going another route one day here in a few years. Perhaps he wants to get some other business type degree (at night, taking a sabbatical from work, etc) that would benefit him somehow in running your business along with all his practical experience. Maybe having an IB high school degree could provide options.

Congrats on raising him with a work ethic and ability to earn that type money right off the bat.

I would finish school. It’s one more year and kids come up with all kinds of bright ideas. Things don’t always go as planned. Being so close I would finish just so I wouldn’t be referred to as a high school drop out. I’m not say he won’t be very successful either way. I’m sure he will. Just my opinion.

Even if it is the wrong choice, let your son make it. He sounds like a smart kid who will change course if things don't go well.

One problem with young professionals today is that they had every life choice made for them until their mid 20's. They get out into the workforce with no decision making ability.

He should finish High School. There is no rush in 1 more year he will have plenty of time to be an adult for the rest of his life. I think he should carry on and maybe take some classes at Community College like Accounting, etc. Doesn't have to get a degree that's just a piece of paper.

Ultimately, in order to run a business it's no longer about working on trucks which I know many on here get that. What you don't want is him working for "The Man" the rest of his life. If my kids want to dig a ditch that's fine they just aren't digging it for someone else @ $10/hr.

No government employees were harmed in the making of this mess.

100% agree! He will have his whole life to work and be an adult. Enjoy his last year in High School and finish strong. He can still work and learn at whatever skill he wants when not in class. You never know what the future holds. A diploma trumps a GED. It shows you can stick with something and finish and not drop out. What's one more year in the next 70-80 years of his life.

I have a 16yr old that is raring to go to work. He home schools so he does have a little more flexibility but I just asked him today what his rush was. He said he needs to make money so he can buy a truck and corn. I guess his motivation could be worse....but truck and corn have got him motivated and he not scared to work. LOL

$200k? Where’s he going? Harvard or Yale?

Those would be the types of schools where a GED isn't good enough. Do two years at a community college and make good grades, then any state university will take you.

I'm almost 45 and I was asked exactly one time to prove I ever graduated high school and that was 25 years ago. It means zilch.
