Make sure your life insurance is updated before you go to skyline on a gun hunt.

I'll throw another one at you. I know a local family that will try to lock up a large area of Hollins by having family members go around the night before and park spare cars at all the gates. They will go in the next morning and still hunt, then do man-drives the rest of the day.

I would say there’s over 2 times the amount there was 3 years ago, probably due to meat and real estate prices. The bow hunting around Huntsville seems to increased 3 to 4 times

have never seen another person hunt where I hunt on wheeler. I know they do, but I've never seen them. I've walked in on, or been walked in on, every single hunt this year.

Just as a matter of discussion, why is it that I always see/hear people talk about how horribly dangerous these overcrowded WMAs are...

...but you never hear about anyone actually being shot?

Seems like that would make the news.

They aren’t bad at all if you know where your going, get there before everybody else does, and then stay until after everybody leaves.

My buddy is all pissed off at all the people at Oakmulgee. He said there is a huge increase in hunters over the past few years. Said some ahole came up and started chatting with him while up in his stand. Guy wouldn;t shut his mouth evidently. Crazy. Back in the late 90's and early 2000's hell nobody hunted down there and there were some big bucks. Maybe the hunting public videos got everybody thinking hunting public land is cool and crap, you know the wannabes with the yeti coolers and huk shirts and crap.

Apparently this year was crazy there. I haven’t been in a year or two and there was nobody there the years I went. The problem I’m hearing is the man drivers are back from 5-10 years ago. They can legally do it from 10-2 but they are doing it all day and pissed a bunch of hunters off.

Just searched it. It's not hard to find reports. There was one killed on what was my favorite WMA at a time I hunted it. I never heard about it that I recall. Just saw it now. So I'd say it happens but maybe you're not hearing about it.

It's safer than driving on the highway, but just because we all do it doesn't make driving a car safe at all.

I quit gun hunting public deer because I almost got in a gunfight. A group of trucks pulled up all around me and thought I should leave because they considered it their area. Having my loaded rifle to hand saved my butt that day. I'm not smart enough to back down when outnumbered but neither am I stupid enough to try my luck again.

I used to hunt down there all the time and never saw any man drives. Man thats bulldoodoo those driving guys coming in and screwing up a plot of land for the rest of the day. Too bad they can;t read sign and kill em like everyone else.

The group I had it out with years ago told me they came from st Claire cnty and had to make the most out of their trip and make sure they killed some deer.

Sounds like “the hunting public”, YouTube, and all the podcast have made hunting public land “cool” again-

Thought I heard mention of them actually hunting private that bordered public, or maybe it was accessing public deep thru private with permission. Can't remember exactly but there was some controversy about a few of their videos

You ain’t seen people to you been to Chocolocco back in the late 70’s- early 80’s. Stand in line for an hour to draw a tag on a doe hunt, come daylight it would sound like a dove shoot.

Just looked it up on outdoor Alabama website, hunter man days in 86-87 was 14,000. Skyline wasn’t much better back in them days.

Daddy seen two people shot at barbour…one of them was a little boy who shot and killed his uncle right after they had got their permit. I rekin he went to load his gun an shot him in the chest with a 30-30..i cant remember..seems like they were right beside the car..or maybe he shot him through the front seat when he was in the backseat..been a long time since daddy told that..an it happened in the 70’s 20 years before i was born probly…i know they are sketchy as heck..an id say there is a good percentage of folks that thats the only time and place they hunt..kn them gun hunts..so..bout 3-4 weekends a season..maybe one out of 3 days..from maybe crackin daylight to 8:30..9:00am if you lucky…there are a bunch of fairly inexperienced people walkin around with high powered rifles..absolutely desperate to be the cool kid in their group an shoot the first thin they see that resembles a deer…or deer like movement. Id say the one i was on at skyline had more folks wearin red hats and neon green safety vests than actual legal blaze orange…there were groups of dudes..walkin up an down the roads..standin by their trucks or aittin in chairs in the back…it looked like somethin out of a jeff foxworthy joke😬
