Yes. I shot one several years ago and was about to grab its back leg to start dragging. It kicked and got to Its feet and left. I never found it. With that being said, I’ve killed several with a shot where the neck joins the body. If I ever shoot one and it drops, I watch it for a few minutes. If it moves, it gets another round.

Has anyone ever: 1) Not had a deer DRT with a neck shot 2) Had a deer flop around on the ground after a neck shot 3) Lost a deer when you know you made a good shot on the neck
Was talking to a guy and he told me every time he shoots one in the neck it flops around on the ground and he has to put another bullet in it. I have never had that happen. Every deer that I have shot in the neck just dropped and was dead before I could get to it.
Yes, on 3 occasions. Once with a 30-30, once with a 7 mag, and once with a .308. All three flopped around then eventually got up and ran off. Never found them.

I’ve shot 2 in the neck and let them lay until dark and had to cut their throats when I got to them.

Shot a doe in the neck Friday first time I’ve ever shot one there, I didn’t want to take a chance of her running as it would’ve been a heck of a drag if she’d went more than 50 yards, she was DRT never moved an inch

I’ve killed a bunch with neck shots. If given the chance that’s where I’m gonna shoot. Base of neck where it joins the body. If they’re quartering to you, they’re gonna pile up 99% of the time. Only had to track one that I shot that way. It was pretty dark and he must have been more straight on than quartering. Bullet went in, and exited just below his butthole. Lightly bruised both hindquarters where the bullet passes between them. If not for being able to see where he ran, I would hear have found him.without a dog I saw where he went in the woods and he was lying right inside the tree line.
If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14

I cut one’s windpipe with a 30-06 once. It went 100 yards or a little more. Small drops of blood. It was fairly easy tracking job because leaves were kicked up and I Was hunting with a first rate tracker.

On the distance I like to walk to my stands: “The first 100 yards is also the last 100 yards.”

When it comes to tracking a wounded deer, there’s just too much margin of error for neck/shoulder shots, I tell people to just shoot them somewhere between front and back legs. nobody wants a gutshot, but you’ll find one gutshot, just got to let ‘em lay. Shoulder/Neck of course can be lethal but about the only deer we loose are shot this way.
