My understanding is that market has peeked at least some that have hunted artifacts for years. I knew a guy that found some super rare artifact in the river back in the 90s. He wouldn’t trust to leave it with me to take a pic of it. He was hoping to get 25-30k for it. Another friend had made real money finding and selling, says eBay took prices down.
Very cool looking point. I know nothing about them.

not an arrowhead, spear point or knife maybe thats a nice one Not even close on the description. Folks have no idea how rare these type of points are. I live a mile and a half from a Paleo site named "Heaven's Half Acre".Google it and read up on it. It has yielded more Clovis points than any other place in Alabama that I am aware of. I hunt some across the road from it, but never have found a fluted piece there. I have two museum-quality Clovis points in the bank safety deposit box that will never be sold by me. My kids may sell them and I am good with that, but I only pray they don't underprice these two Clovis points. Skinny can give you the rundown on these if you need it, but a thousand an inch is what we go by here. I am a member of the Thousand Eyes program TVA has started and I monitor the illegal taking of artifacts from Federal properties. If folks only knew what has come out of Florence and Leighton Alabama they would scream. There is huge money in the right artifacts. And I do mean huge!

This is a legit question... You are a member of a program that monitors the Illegal taking of artifacts from Federal properties, but you have two Clovis points in your safe deposit box? What does "a thousand an inch is what we go by here" mean?

What does "a thousand an inch is what we go by here" mean? I am guessing he found the Clovis points on private land and not Federal?? I believe he is saying the points are valued by length and go for $1,000 an inch. So one worth $10,000 must be 10 inches long??

school me on the legality/unlawfulness of the selling of Indian artifacts found on my private property? are they ‘mine’ to do with as I please?

Irish-The two I have were found over 50 years ago by my farming family. I found my first one while I was in grade school. Probably 8 or 9 years old. To my family, they were simply Indian rocks. I was the only member in the entire family that was even interested in my Native American Heritage. A thousand-an-inch means exactly what it says they are, a thousand-an-inch in dollars MINIMUM. Collectors with money pay big money for relics. I saw a white pipe that was shaped like a bald Eagle sell for 32,000 over 20 years ago. I have no problem with finding relics in a farming operation, washed creek, etc but when it comes to the robbing of the burials I am totally against it. Most on here have no idea what folks will do to dig up relics. Like I stated earlier, There is huge money in relics today.

Assuming it is authentic, which I am from the picture, it is a great point but not a $10,000 point. He'd better take the money.

That's an amazing find. I can't make up my mind if it's a Clovis or a Cumberland. Either way, it's beautiful. Very rare! I’m no expert and haven’t found a whole lot of good points myself, but I instantly thought Cumberland when I saw the picture. Robinhedd

There was a lot of divers digging at one time. Did you ever hear the story of the diver that dig up a burial site and put a skull on his mantle. Then all the bad juju hit and he had a crash and ended up in the hospital for a week or so. When he as finally able he took the skull back along with other items and ou them as he’d dig them up.

What’s makes them worth so much? I understand there old. Is it location found, condition, kind, color, rare find, perfect cut? The most important variable is probably is the authenticity and ability to prove so. Then, assuming it has been authenticated by one of the well known people that do this and have excellent reputations in that trade, it is the point type which is an indicator of age combined with how well it represents the point type. Then color and material also play a part in it. Where it is found, assuming it is a place to be legally hunted, is a consideration, but not as important as others. That is my opinion from my foray into the collecting world, others may disagree. A lot is based on what an individual collector likes.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

I remember one story about a professor at UNA who found a skull hunting relics with two friends. Brought it home and his car's motor blew up the next morning. Buddies vacuum cleaner burned up the night they brought it home. The other fellow that was with them fell at home and broke his wrist! May all be a coincidence, but I know for a fact that the skull was returned two days later to the same place they found it. The finder of the skull was a lady I work withs daddy. She still talks about the bad JuJu that it brought to them all. They never brought bones home again.
Remember about 30 years ago when folks were mussel diving on the mounds and selling the mussels to buyers on the highway? They sold relics they found to the local pawn shops, etc, and sold mussels to the buyers. Some folks were making over 75 a year doing this. This is where the pipe I was telling about was found. A mussel diver found it, took it to a pawn shop, the shop owner called a buddy about the pipe. Finder owed 32 on his house trailer. Buyer paid the trailer off and was gone. This was the find of a lifetime and no telling what it would be worth now in today's market.

I bet you have duck hunted on Heavens Half Acre! It is just East of me here on 6th Street. Mr. Holland from school dug almost all of the site up and documented tons of stuff that came off it. There was even a 5" Clovis on display in the library in Leighton that Holland donated to the library. One day two men were visiting the library and went into the room that housed all the arrowheads. Mrs. King happened to notice two days later that it was gone. The visitors simply took it from the cased display and stole it.

Brent, we all could retire if we would have just hunted arrowheads as kids where we all grew up instead of hunting deer! I even remember seeing a box of broken points your dad had at a yard sale one time. I know you and Clint probably found them when we growing up. I wanted them, but wouldn't pay 20.00 for them at the time. I wish I had it to do over now.
