Have all of you bama fans forgotten the two Mike scandals that ripped through your beloved program? I know I'll get crucified here for binging them up but just wondering if y'all had forgotten. I know I'll be made out to be the idiot here but seems like some of y'all have short memories. I'm sure Joey Freshwater was squeaky clean in Tuscaloosa as well. Freeze has had his problems but seems like bama has had coaches with the same issues as well. Guess maybe I should borrow a pair of Gomers glasses but that's just how I see things.

Each fan base is trying to make themselves the moral measuring stick when both schools have a history that's far from lily white. Alabama fans think the players at their school never took money before the NIL and that Auburn fans are losers because their team isn't very good. Auburn fans think Alabama fans are trailer trash that doesn't have a life if Alabama isn't in the NC picture and that most of their fans can't find Tuscaloosa on a map. The truth is that football is a really poor god and both schools have plenty to be proud and ashamed of. But, to argue over a game that none of us has any impact on is about as juvenile as it gets. I should know because I was once as guilty of it as anyone. Living in Georgia for 6 years and Tennessee for 3 years has shown me Alabama and Auburn fans aren't the only fans with screwed up perspectives about how they view their rivals.

We're all making jokes about it now and AU fans would have been doing the same thing had Saban hired him as an offensive analyst/OC a few years ago. Greg Sankey and the SEC stepped in and said it would be a bad look for the conference to have Freeze on staff with a program while Ole Miss served out its NCAA penalties.
There was a thread in the General forum years ago and the first point made in the thread was about having thick skin (I think it was reiterated several times in that one thread). And that is never any truer than here in the sports forum. When AU is down and Bama is up, the Bama fans rib the barners. When Bama is down and AU is up, the barners rib the Bama fans; it's been that way since the 2 teams started playing and will be that way until the athletic programs at both schools are done away with. We all know Bama's success won't last forever and that AU won't be down forever. Each fan base relishes in the moment. And 99% of the time, everyone can take the ribbing (there's been the occasional "going off the deep end" on both sides of the state and those members were dealt with by admins/owners of the site).

Very good post Bill and so true. It's just a stupid game played by kids. Sure it's fun to watch, but someone getting their own personal pride caught up in it is just stupid.
