I did not see a deer all dang day from a stand. Weird. Still glad to go. Unpressured property covered up in deer sign too.

Sounds like we were hunting the same place.

Before it got to dark to see I had 21 doe and fawns in the field. Most I've seen on the fields in over 22 years of hunting it

Saw 2 does and a bunch of turkeys in Conecuh county. My cameras were slow today too compared to what they have been.

My 11 year old and I went out to a spot I know on Cahaba. He's still learning the basics, but I'm so dang proud of him. He's matured a lot since last season and today he got to carry a Ruger #1B in .243 Win. We got into some deer, but wind was swirling down in the bottoms and we got blown at. He was pumped just to hear the deer and know they were close by.

It was actually a very special day for me as a dad: the jacket my oldest wore today I had bought at an estate sale when he was about a year old, hoping that one day he'd wear it hunting with me. It's an old school duck hunting jacket, but it does the job. I guess old school camo is back in as well so there's that.

Memorable moment though on the way out we got checked. I bought a DV lifetime license this year and just goofed on not buying a WMA permit, luckily Officer CM let me turn it into a learning point for my son. He also asked "Is this guy with you?" I was confused and said, "uhhh yeah he's 11." I guess he looks like he needs a license.

That’s crazy . I believe I have the exact same jacket as your son. For sure same camo and looks identical. I have had it over 40 years

I’ve still got that same jacket also. Doesn’t fit me anymore though. I got mine when I was 11 or 12, I’m 52 now.

I've been checked a few times walking back to the truck at Cahaba. Always had good experiences. It's a tough place to hunt but the location and size that close to Birmingham is truly unique. You won't find anything comparable in hardly any other 1 million + city, especially without quota permits.
