Who on here has taken and passed the A+ exams? Is it as difficult as it sounds for the average guy? I hear that 2012 version will be out in October and lots of Google searchable questions from the previous version won't be on there. Any input appreciated.

Get the F out of the BATFE. The F is guaranteed by the US Constitution. Those other letters are not.

Try actualtest.com It costs a little bit but pretty much any certification on earth is on this website.

I have taken the SECURITY+ exam. It was not hard, but I did study for it pretty heavy. I also have 25+ yrs of IT experience in system administration (mainframe and UNIX), networking, and database administration.

Learn the concepts. Using previous test as a study guide is a good method. The exam I took was a new version of the exam which may have had 5 questions from all the previous tests I had used for practice.

I took Security+ exam. I used Pass For Sure to help me pass the exam. It cost a little bit but was very helpful. Good Luck!!!

I took and passed it 10-12 yrs ago. I would say for the average guy it probably would be difficult without studying just because of some very specific stuff they asked. However, if you're considering it you probably already know enough to pass with just a little extra studying. I certainly know way more now about hardware than I did when I passed the test.

I think the majority of folks are pushed through the boot camps that test at the end. Essentially, folks are feed the test material (cumulative test questions/definitions, etc...) for 4 days and then take the exam. The pass rates are pretty high. To me, this basically undermines the value of the certification.

From my perspective, certifications and education open a door but experience and capability are what keeps you inside.

I took the A+ about 10 years ago, it wasn't a cake walk, but not too difficult. Since then I've taken and passed the MCP, MCSA, MCSE 2003, Security + and I'm currently studying for my CCNA. My job requires these Certs so I have to take em. I hate studying for exams!

That is the skinny on it.
