Your owl pics are good too.
That must be pretty clay like soil to keep retaining the salt. I've had a pretty good lick in kind of a sandy place and if it isn't replenished they'll come off of it. I've read several times that soil composition an pH will also contribute to success or failure of a mineral site; I think you've got a really good spot there.
Maybe you could just give it five or ten pounds of whatever it is to keep it going for the remainder of summer.
Always remember that safety comes first. Then pull the trigger.
