The scariest thing that ever happened to me concerning hunting was when Modoc 333 invited me to go with him one day. +1 for the win!

Duck hunting by myself on Swan Creek backwaters a couple of miles in after a very cold spell. My lab, Rebel, fell through the ice in the middle of pond and couldn't climb back out. I laid down on the ice and crawled out grapped him behind the neck and he was able to leverage his way out. The ice started sinking with our weight but didn't break. Slid back off the ice wet but ok. Didn't scare me at the time but did afterward. Had wife and small kids at home. I loved that dog and couldn't watch him drown.

Stuck a bobcat while bow hunting one evening. It ran into some bushes about 50 yards away. Flopped around, growled, screamed made a hell of a fuss. It would stop for about 10 min and then start up again. I realized that I was in there with a wounded bobcat and all I had was a bow with 2 more arrows. I quietly climed down and went the opposite way to get back to the truck. I checked there about a week later and never found it or my arrow.

A tree had fallen across a creek the night before I was going to go hunt the slough upstream. The water was a foot higher and over the tree going in before sunrise. Once we finished hunting around 7:30, the river dropped just enough to make it impassable by 7:45am. Maybe a foot. The creek is about 5’ wide at this point. The mast of the tree is completely across the creek and the main trunk is about 6-8” under the surface.
I unloaded all the weight I could off the boat. Put the dog, guns, ammo, and the other two guys with me on the bank. Someone had already tried to cut some of the tree top out with a chainsaw and someone else just tried snapping the limbs off. It was a hardwood tree that was still pretty green.
Anyways, after I got the boat as skinny as I could, I backed up about 15-20’, trimmed all the way down and slammed it back forwards full throttle. Once I started coming up on plane, I turned to trim up the motor and skip the main trunk of the and the boat pulled left real hard. I made it across the trunk and through the crown of the tree.
Nothing happened to me, but when I looked up, my buddies eyes were about the size of saucers and they told me I just about took a snapped oak limb to the neck. I didn’t realize it was dangerous until they kind of showed me what happened.

We used to do that dove shooting, fire a random shot when nothing was flying and rain down on the other end of the field, usually answered with a pants down pee session from that side quickly ended by firing another shot from this side. That's the kind of chit we did when we weren't drankin.

I got charged by a pack of feral dogs. My old Winchester Model 94 served me well. The lead dog got it in the noggin at about 10 yards. I dropped 2 more and shot another down. One dog left without a bullet in it. Feral dogs are the only animal in the part of the state I hunt that I worry about running up on. I’d most likely be concerned about bears if we had them in my area. This happened to me. I had my bolt action 25-06 and was shooting from the hip when they were jumping through the air trying to attack me. I got three of the four that were trying to jump on me and the other ran off. I got him running off through a big bay field

Probably the scariest moment I ever had hunting was when I was at our lease during the middle of the week by myself. I had my climber on my back and decided to go a different route to where I wanted to hunt to keep from spreading my scent around. I knew there was a small creek I’d have to jump across. Really more of a wide ditch than a creek. It had been years since I walked in that way and when I got to the “ditch” I was not about 8’-10’ wide and full of flowing water. As I’m standing at the edge of it wandering how to get across so I wouldn’t have to walk back out and around, the edge gave way underneath me and sent my tumbling into the water. I ended up under water, face up, with the weight of my climber holding me under, on my back. I got the shoulder straps off and managed to stand up. The water was about waist deep. I had to toss my rifle up on the bank because the time had deepened the creek to about 8’ deep. I pulled my climber up out of the water and had to toss it up too. Then I had to grab exposed roots and pull myself out. I laid on the ground catching my breath soaked. I went on to my hunting spot and climbed a tree soaking wet, since it wasn’t that cold. I sat there for about an hour, then the reality of what all had just happened set in and how easily I could have drowned. I climbed down and went home.

1. I fell out of a climber years ago, about 15 ft. off the ground and landed on a big dead/rotten tree. Once I realized I wasn't hurt too bad, I just laid there for about 20 minutes county my lucky stars.
2. Turkey hunting a few years ago, I was about a mile from the truck...I was walking to a specific area trying to beat daybreak. It started raining while still pitch black, so the little flashlight I had wasn't giving me hardly any light. All of a sudden, something big, really big, tore through the woods right behind me! It ran across the trail I was on right behind me so fast, and I never even saw it as it crashed and tore up the woods into the wet night. Scared the absolutely f*** out of me. I was on an older friend's property. He had just swore the night before that a bigfoot had been seen on the property years ago and that it had been heard smacking trees with another tree like a baseball bat at another time. It was probably a massive hog, but who knows?
3. ...and of course, there were the 3 ufo's...but ya'll probably think I'm lying/weirdo and don't want to hear it.
4. On two different occasions, I've had bullets whistle by me, within 20 yards from guys shooting at deer that I was letting walk and just watching.
5. One morning well before daylight on public land during bow season around Lake Eufaula, I was walking along the lake front in knee-high grass in order to get to my spot. I fell into some type of drain pipe. I caught myself with my arms on the ground before I went completely under. You talking about being scared when the Earth just seemingly disappears under your feet in the dark of night in knee-high grass! Lord have mercy...and it was filled with water! I have no idea where it lead to, and I'm glad I didn't find out.

my scariest moment was; I was coming out of a climber from a bow hunt after dark. I packed the stand up and started walking out. After about 30' from the tree I was sitting in I hear something following me. Everytime I stopped it stopped, everytime i started walking it would walk. The hair stood up on the back of my neck and I started running. I could hear it running also. By the time I got back to my truck that wompus cat pull up rope was fraid on the end from all the high speed dragging lol. I wouldn’t have laughed so hard if I couldn’t see myself doing this, that’s hilarious

Dear Penthouse, I mean Aldeer forum, I was abducted by aliens in a UFO. The stories that y’all have heard is not what I experienced. It was an all female crew and I was forced to probe all of the pretty ones. Afterwards they returned me to my deer stand, my knees were so weak that I had to sit there for a couple of hours before I could climb down.

1. I fell out of a ladder stand years ago, about 17 ft. off the ground and landed in some soft dirt only broke tb/fib on left leg and collarbone. No phone and only my dog with me for help. Interesting walk back to my truck for help. 2. Lost in the woods on a new lease for several hours shot deer, lost deer, long day 3. Early 90's new to Florida hunting walked up on something moving and hissing in some tall grass at dusk scared the crap out of me. Stupid armadillo. 4. First started hunting knew very little of climbers but went up about 20ish feet when the bottom of the climber fell out from me. Still have skin hanging on that tree! lol
