Earl Brown was 3-22-4 in three seasons as AU coach from 1948-50, including 0-10 his final year.
Harsin sucked as a coach but he wasn't the worst. Just the worst that anyone remembers.

#55 recruiting class for 2023. If you gave him another year the best-case scenario would have been to save money on his buy out. Auburn should have a top 15 recruiting class every year. Terrible hire from the start Prior to Harsin , going back to 2000, recruiting wasn't an issue. They were top 20 90% of the time and top 10 about half the time. Player development and retention have been the main culprits. Add in the most controlling boosters in all of college football and its not hard to see why the inconsistencies are so consistent.

Auburn should have a top 15 recruiting class every year.  Idk what you're seeing different. Oh, and btw I'm an Alabama fan tried and true, but hard to argue these numbers. From 247 sports: Year - Class Ranks 2007 - 9 2008 - 18 2009 - 23 2010 - 6 2011 - -5 2012 - 11 2013 - 10 2014 - 6 2015 - 8 2016 - 9 2017 - 10 2018 - 12 2019 - 13 2020 - 8 2021 - 18 2022 - 21 By my calculations they should have a top 15 class every year. Like I said I'm an Alabama fan, and actually an alum too. I think it makes the SEC better when both teams in the state are good IMO.

Auburn is ranked 12th all time in wins. Every coach from Dye to Malzhan either had an undefeated season, won a SEC title or a NC. This is all in spite of the boosters and the coaching carousel. Those numbers are sure to fall if they don't get it right this time and hire a proven coach that can control the boosters instead of the boosters controlling him. Based on recent history I have little faith the right decisions get made.

Heck - this same AD (cowen) fired the MS state coach after 2 years and his first year he went 8-4 - can’t think of the coach that was from Penn St. that state fired - but they replaced him w Leach. Think AU waited long time if u look at numbers - he don’t even ever hardly score in second half and should not even win the mizzu game - total gift - he is plenty bad. Should be winless in sec this year if not for mizzu gift and didn’t win much last year. Don’t know if u caught the article but Nix just came out and said Harsin reason he left - basically said he was a horses butt that made football miserable - that came out like Friday r sat - that’s bad
