The news is not saying anything about the breed of the dogs that killed a 2 yr old and a five month old in Memphis. https://www.al.com/news/2022/10/tennessee-dog-attack-kills-2-young-children-injures-mother.html
Maybe ya'll can find the rest of the story.

As someone whose owned multiple dobermans (which unfairly get a bad rap sometimes), I tend to lean more toward the "not bad dogs, just bad owners/breeders" in most cases...and I've been around some sweet, friendly pits...but man I just can't ever bring myself to trust them no matter how well-behaved they might be. It's literally the only breed of dog that I just don't fully trust. Too many cases of family pets that were "as sweet and gentile as could be"...until they weren't for no real reason

That’s just CYA after the fact

I had a lab that was squirly as hell. I’d tell people to IGNORE him, they just couldn’t do it and start talking baby’s talk and squat down towards him. Two triggers he had, he wasn’t an aggressive dog by any means. In fact just the opposite, he was fearful

But because he was lab folks thought he was a roly poly playful type dog. He wasn’t.

Labs are actual lung in the top 10 of attackers. One was recent

I've only raised a gun at an aggressive dog one time, and it was 2 labs that ran up on me during turkey season several years back. I knew who's they were which probably helped them. they charged me to within about 15' then stood there snarling and barking. I had my shotgun pointed at them with finger on the trigger and made my mind up that if they took another step, they were getting a face full of lead. Thankfully they didn't and eventually ran off when I stood my ground.

Their owner was pretty lucky they ran up on you and not someone else. 15 feet is too close. That is all Im going to say.

Fearful dogs are just as bad because they will bite out of fear. Not malicious.

There are several other breeds that are up there BUT the pit KILLS more people. It just doesn’t bite or maim. It KILLS.

No doubt the more kills part, they’re bred for that.

My point was I would tell folks to leave my dog alone and they wouldn’t because he was a lab. He would walk around tail wagging and happy as all can be. Until someone petted this head, his tail would stop wagging and he’d become submissive and fearful. I feel a trainer did that too him but he may have underlying issues as well. The dog I’m talking about is my avatar. He’d point with the best of any English pointers.

Others can still kill. I saw where a lab kills a lid the other day, I almost posted it here.

My friend that is a vet says the Dalmatians are biers too.

I've always heard dalmations tended to be more prone to aggression than many others. I haven't been around a ton of them, but EVERY. SINGLE. ONE. I've ever been around was batchit crazy. We're talking "you can see the crazy in their eyes"...

At least they got to enjoy the pits company for a little while. The dad doesn’t have a family anymore but at least he’s got the pits to help get him through this.

I’d take the dogs outback and put a bullet in their ear. I don’t care the breed of dog once it’s done that.

I won't get into the pit debate but will share a fact. Why are labs in the top 10 of all dog bite cases? Is it because they are inherently bad? No it's because they are one of the most popular breeds of dogs, so there are tons of them out there. It's kind of like saying there are more car crashes in Ford F series trucks than any other car in America. Is it because they are unsafe? No it's because they are the most popular truck in America. I will second the Dalmatian, I've never seen a well tempered one.

There was a pit attack a few weeks ago in Al. Heard it on 105.5 going to work. Dog ran over to a different yard and attacked a child. Dad shot it 3 times and killed it.

As many as 30% of Dalmatians are deaf to some degree, many totally deaf. May have something to do with it. Folks across the street from my FIL several years ago had one that was some kinda crazy and had a mean streak.

Years ago when my kids were small my wife wanted a Dalmatian and I said no for months but finally relented with the stipulation that the FIRST time the dog got aggressive towards anyone - it would IMMEDIATELY be gone... one way or the other. 5 months later it fuzzed up on me and one of my girls. Told me wife she had the rest of the day to find it a new home or it was getting a dirt nap. It was gone in less than 1 hour.

Bad deal. I've raised many of them in my day and mine were all great dogs. Only dog i had that i wouldn't trust around a kid was a Rottweiler i had when i was younger. Now I'll tell what dog I've hated since i was a kid and that's a damn Chow, y'all can have them SOBs. I was sitting at the vet in lucedale and this big Ol' Woman walks in with a Chow named "King" and you could tell they weren't to happy with that because they got the muzzle out because of past encounters with the dog. Anyways she got a little closer to me and that SOB started growling at me (and the dumbass made no attempt to move) i looked down at Shooter and he was staring at me and i said easy boy, i told that lady hey! You better move on over and get that damn dog away from us or the King there is gonna be like Elvis Presley. She looks at me whats you means? He's named after MLK i says ok well he's gonna be like MLK then! Guess she figured it out because she moved her and her dogs butt 🤭

Do not regret growing older, it's a privilege denied to many!

Would this be attributed to just the shear number of labs that people have as pets? One of the most popular breeds...

I'm guessing so, yes. Most of these "polls"/rankings aren't per-capita....they're just gross numbers.

That also helps the pit numbers. They’re called pits as half bred or even less. There’s a lot of those around. Pits are bred with serious attributes like others as well.

Like James mentioned chows do worry me. Seems they’re conniving all the time
