I just reserved an airbnb for that hunt, its about 5 miles away. Ive hunted there once before and there’s nowhere within 40 minutes to stay.

We will have 2 extra beds, if y’all want to go in on it with us, just shoot me a pm.

I saw four good bucks there in one morning last year. When you figure out what unit you have send me a PM

That’s promising to hear. Were you there about the same time? Did y’all kill anything?

About 2 weeks before your time. No. I think one deer was killed the entire week by all hunters.

Joe did better than me, I saw some but I don't remember ever having a shot on one.

The year before I killed a (at least for me) nice 8 pt. But it was in a zone that doesn't exist anymore.

We got unit assignments within a week or so after getting chosen. Last year we had 2 days in early October to scout the unit even though the hunt was 1st weekend in December.

Well she decided to pick the 1/19 hunt on Thigpen as her alternate choice. I wonder when she finds out if she gets upgraded? Congrats to those chosen!

So were you able to select hunter for both Thigpen and the Geneva Dog random draw? I know a guy that was wondering if he could select both since he had a dog draw and an SOA too.

I shot a doe the first afternoon and rushed my damn shot on a nice 6 or 8 pt the following morning. I hit high shoulder and never recovered him and Oak Mountain 2 years ago. There are definitely deer there but you have to scout and work a little bit.

Those that are Alternates need to check back daily to see if you are upgraded to Hunter.

Yes, I picked the Thigpen Hill hunt first and it immediately declined the three alternate choices. I then was also able to also accept the Geneva dog hunt. I wasn't sure either, which is why I picked the SOA hunt first.

I do not live far from there so I should be able to spend some time there closer to time. Me, the wife, and kid may just have to go hiking a couple of weekends

I had never heard of these hunts until I saw this thread. I guess I’ve been living under a rock. Is there a website that explains how the draws and point system works?

Whoever is the alternate for Frank Jackson state park on 12/15 is about to be upgraded. I think my wife is gonna decline it. Heard from a buddy it wasn’t such a great place to hunt

Also the alternate for the Blackwater River hunt on 11/10 is about to get lucky, I registered my preacher for it and it is only a couple days prior to his wife’s due date
