What are y’all’s thoughts on planting on Labor Day in the cullman, Winston, Lawrence county area? Don’t want army worms to get it, but limited on off days.

Way to early. Unless your feeding army worms.

Plant based on weather conditions, not a date on a calendar. If the temps are cooler and rain is in the forecast, I plant middle of September every year for the last 30 years with no problems. Now if it's still hot and dry, then I wait. I'm in Talladega county.

I planted last year on Oct. 15 and I think they were the best I ever had. The risk planting early( Labor Day) is you get a little shower , get them up and it turns off dry and you lose them. Been there , done that, I learned the hard way. It's still hot early September and usually dry, the young plants can stand hot and dry , but not alot of both at the same time.

This...The year we had the nasty drought where most lost their fields, ours were fine because no rain ever germinated them...

Late October here. Maybe early November.

Moisture is the key to this whole thing IMO. In the Spring I'm planting mid-March.

Makes a HUGE difference.

I have planted mine from as early as Labor day to as late as the first of December through the years. The only guarantee I ever seem to get is that it will not rain for at least a month after I drop the seed. With that said, I have had better luck with waiting until early October to plant.
