Having kids has ruined deer hunting for me. LOL!! If I ever go solo, I'm always passing on deer thinking that would be a good one for either of my boys. I've grown to like it, though. I was as excited as I have been in years last year when I was sitting beside my 9-year old when he got his first good antlered deer. Priority shift, for sure.
Now about the only time I'm serious about deer hunting is a few days with the flintlock on WMAs before regular season starts.
You gonna pull them pistols, or whistle Dixie?

I'm just getting to the point where the kids (16 and 20) aren't needing/wanting my help anymore. That's a fun time too. Getting to see them succeed with what you taught them and learning on their own.
May the sound of hounds never die!

I remember taking my son fishing. First few times I tried to fish too. Impossible to do. 18 years later I have a 4yo. Just purchased her first fishing rod and tackle box. Gonna take her fishing. Gonna take an extra bream setup and keep it in the truck as a spare. I won't be attempting to fish myself. It's a waste of time.
But now he's grown, those were some of my favorite times with my son. I'd give anything if he could find the time to joins us on her first fishing trip.
Character is not developed in moments of temptation and trial. That is when it is intended to be used.

I took my daughter to rifle range and out of 300 plus rounds , I only fired one round, also had a great time That was me when I took my grandkids. I loaded mags and could barely keep up.
What you do today, you have to sleep with tonight.
