My boat partner and I have switched to night trips because of the heat index during the day. We arrived a Ditto around 5pm on Friday and discovered we had left the catfish poles hanging in my garage. All we had in the boat were three light weight rods we use to catch skipjack. So off we went and caught 30 skipjack before dark. But you can't put a 4oz weight on a light action rod and cast it, so we were limited to dropping it straight down. Ended the night with one 8lb blue. Still beats fishing during the day time.

I love going at night. Partners are hard to find though. It gets your attention when you spook a big Gator off it's nest in the dark. Then they roar and call all night.

I know the bugs are somewhat of an issue after dark but heat stroke isn't. Jet ski traffic isn't a problem. Bass are easily angered by a single Colorado blade spinnerbait between midnight and 4 am. Every once in a while you get in a school of bass busting shad at daylight. Don't do much night fishing any more due to the lack of sleep from working swing shifts but it beats burning to a crisp.

I tarpon fish in the heat all summer. I couldn’t do it if I didn’t drink electrolytes before I fished. I also eat raw honey and bananas.

The only thing I hate worse than fishing during the day in the summer is fishing at night ANY time.

Big bass are easier to catch at night than they are during the day to me. I love to throw a big spinner bait or a black worm at night. my favorite way to catch them is on a black frog on calm nights

We will burn that bridge when we get there

It's nice to NOT have jet skis buzzing around. I catch a few on buzzbaits off emerging weed beds at night in late May and early June. I wish I were more heat tolerant and could get on the frog bite on Guntersville.

I prefer at night, but I have to find some green dock lights. I don’t like throwing blind.

We use to fish jitterbugs at my lake at night. Haven’t been at night in 30 years.

Nighttime crappie fishing is the most relaxing thing I have ever done, in the "hobby" world.

Yep, that's my speed too. The sun isn't blistering my ears, the lake isn't full of jet skiers, very few wakes, little competition for the best spots, Crappie bite better at night in the summer, and believe it or not, if you get away from the bank a decent way you don't even need deet.

Agree with all this but at my age, the next day is a total loss trying to recover from being up all night.

Night time crappie fishing is the bomb. When I was a kid my grandfather had a place on Eufala in its hay day and I got to go a couple of times when they would anchor his pontoon on a channel drop, put out lights and just slaughter them all night.

It is still just that easy at night on Eufaula if you do a little looking. Be courteous to dock owners who have lights and fish attractors around their docks. A little manners usually goes a long way with them.

Got me a new light this week. Me and the boy is gonna head out this evening. Not sure if it's big cats, bass or crappie fishing. I really look forward to it since it's cooled off.
