You have got to be kidding me. How close was he expecting to get before taking the shot? The paper said "the rattler slithered its way around Howle's right leg, tripping him. Howle says the snake was pinned beneath him".
I don't know how someone would get up off of a rattlesnake. That is when you would get bit for sure.

You can take a short 3 1/2' stick and kill any snake you can get to. I use a "stick like device: that has a shell in it. I just pull it.
I can't stand a thief.
