I agree but when he took a couple of steps back towards the aggressor that might would cause him trouble in some states. This is why Stand Your Ground laws can be so important.

Was that murder or self-defense? He was backing up, non-aggressor the entire time. He was trying to avoid the fight and was being ganged up on. He showed them he was armed with a knife and they kept coming. Can't see how that could be murder. But nowadays, anything can happen, there is no sanity.
Character is not developed in moments of temptation and trial. That is when it is intended to be used.

But you can't really claim it was 100% self defense without knowing if there was a motive or not. We don't know the whole story. May be he's getting railroaded , but maybe not ?
