The Alabama Poison Center has started a program to offer FREE follow up and wound treatment for poisonous snakebite victims. Might be a good idea to put their number in your contacts; 800-222-1212.
Sounds like a good service to assist in recovery.

Knew a old guy that was the community drunk
Climbed under a old car to get a part and was bit by a copperhead
He put that purple hog medicine on it and went on about his busy work

Poison is touchable ingested. Venom is stung bit. You can poison yourself something else puts the venom in you. I think that's where Dr.Dave was going for with my non-English degreed self.

Skinny is my EX.Alcohol was involved.

You never know. A good friend of mine was bitten by a baby copperhead a few years ago, had a bad reaction, and was unconscious within five minutes. He didn't make it. If you get bitten, don't fool around, get to the hospital.

I don't know if its true, but I've always heard/ read that a bite from a baby snake is worse than an adult. IIRC the reasoning was that the baby snakes haven't developed good control over the venom ducts and will pump everything its got into you, whereas a mature snake will usually only give you a smaller, metered dose.

A lot of copperhead bites are dry bites.

copperhead does have the weakest venom of the big four. I hear it can be around 100k for the antivenom, so I guess they might've took a gamble and won.

About 3 years ago, I was working near a creek doing a survey. I was about 40’ from the edge of the creek bank in some tall, but sparse weeds. I went to push a a stake in the ground when I got hit on my right hand, in between my pinky and ring finger. At first I dropped what I was doing and took off running out of instinct because I thought I just got into some underground yellow jackets. I looked at my hand and there was a drop of blood. That’s when I saw that SOB slithering away. I didn’t have anything to kill that f****r and I couldn’t waste the energy beating him with a stick because I needed to walk about 1/2 mile back to the truck to get my coworker. Doesn’t sound like far but my heart was racing and it was hot outside. He was about 2.5-3’ and about as big around as a paper towel roll.

They are masters of camouflage and he never rattled. I never saw him until it was way too late. I spent 2 nights in the hospital and took 14 vials of antivenin. They’re about $10k a vial in case you’re wondering. My hand was swole up like a balloon within an hour and the swelling was to my elbow in 3 hours.

Most copperhead and cottonmouth bites are over treated by medical facilities. Antivenin should be a last resort. I know a lot of folks in the outdoor and snake business who’ve been bitten by both with no treatment other than ibuprofen. Rattlesnakes are a different story. Should always seek treatment for that. They’re bad news.

We try not to give crofab…crofab can be worse for you than the actual snake venom itself and controversial evidence it actually works now…a lot of times we just watch em and elevate the appendages couple with pain control etc

Are you sure you're not thinking of Wyeth ACP? CroFab and ANAVIP both have a great safety profile and have a proven efficacy to neutralize venom and reduce the use of long term opioids.

This is what I've heard from watching nature documentaries, cant remember where in particular. Snakes live to conserve calories. An adult with control over their venom ducts would rather offer a warning bite first, since making venom consumes calories.

A kid at my boys school had a dad that got bit by a copperhead one night on his front porch. He went into cardiac arrest within 10 min. 45 min later he was dead.

Had a friend from Hubbertville that got bit on the ankle when he was 12. Stayed in the hospital for a couple weeks and almost lost his foot.

My dad almost died from one yellow jacket sting on his back.

I guess it’s like anything else poisonous or venomous. It’s all about how a persons body reacts to it.
